"Carowinds lays off 20 full-time workers
Paramount's Carowinds amusement park has laid off 20 full-time workers as part of a long-term business plan, park officials say.
The layoffs, which took effect last week, were a management decision and not the result of a business slowdown or a weak economy, said Carowinds spokesman Scott Anderson.
The 105-acre theme and water park now employs about 125 people full time, and between 1,700 and 2,200 seasonal workers.
The cuts marked one of the biggest full-time work force reductions in the past six or seven years at Carowinds, Anderson said.
The layoffs will help the company focus on front-line employees -- those who deal with guests.
Carowinds employees are considered North Carolina workers because the amusement park's business offices are in North Carolina."
