Instead of a traditional trip report I just thought I'd share a few things I saw and experienced Tuesday with my Son and his Girlfriend. He is 21 and she is 23 and yes I took pics but I'm not posting them.
1. Lack of staffing, as school wasn't out, so water rides, and others, were not operating until after 3pm
2. Nighthawk party...meaning this crew acts like they are on the Hurtler. Forget the patrons, let's have our time.
3. Danny Phantom was awesome as ever. I scared my Sons girlfriend.
She's 23
4. Misters everywhere were sputtering as you had to reach up to even feel a mist.
5. Fans were not turned on.
6. Water sprinklers were in abundance but who wants to get soaked then walk around and chafe? Fix the Misters and Fans.
7. Afterburn was not operational until after NOON (12)?
The attendant told me the staff was working in other areas and they were waiting on them.
8. Luvs me some upside down time on the ship but if you made the ride any shorter I could just walk right through and not have to bother you to lock my restraints.
9. Announcers for the rides need to not swallow the microphone and speak a little clearer. They all sounded like Charlie Brown’s Teacher with lower voices.
10. Sky tower needs AIR-CONDITIONERS not fans that just stir up that stale sweat stench.
11. Swings, uh, next subject.
12. At least ½ of all the kiosks were closed which meant we had to walk forever to find something to drink.
13. Speaking of something to drink, is it too much to ask for to have a little ICE in the free water? Now I know why it’s free. My bathwater is colder and more refreshing than what they gave us.
14. No more stars along the NC / SC line. I don’t have a problem with the pavers but could we not at least level them out so we didn’t trip over them?
15. Drop Zone was Drop Zone and still a good rush for me. I actually like it better than the 300 foot ones as it is only the first second or two that gives me the rush.
16. Hurler was sweet from the front but my oh my does it need some major TLC like Thunder Road is getting. From the front all you have to do is look down and see how bad the wood has gotten. Sure, there were new shiny bolts but that wood needs help in a bad way. It was like a lot of people walked on it with Golf Spikes and just took chunks out.
17. I did see where Goldrusher got some new support wood under the second lift. Guess it was about to fall through?
18. I still like the Vortex, except for the rip your ear off roll. It makes me dizzy every time I ride and if everyone would quit sitting on their family tree there isn’t any pain. I think it’s more of a hyper under the bridge thing. One person says it so everyone has to.
19. Ricochet was cool with no brakes until the last turn at the top but this little jewel needs refreshing bad. It’s looking a tad bit faded, old and run down.
20. Mr. Cyclone holds more of a sentimental thing for me but it is still a good ride in the front or back. Maybe I just know where to keep my head so it doesn’t bang around. Oh, when and why did they put the belts on the restraints? Were they there 2 years ago? I don’t remember them.
21. Finally on the way out we got to ride the flume. Remind you this is ONLY because of my Son’s girlfriend. There was a couple in front of us without shoes. The attendant told them they could not ride without shoes. Well, they begged and he let them on anyway. Hmm, Roller, what do you think? Not picking on Roller but isn’t that just a tad bit against policy? But, on the ride itself, isn’t it about time to replace it with a NEW and more exciting Flume?
22. The new Haunt / Storage building is getting its frame put up but looks a bit small. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for Scarowinds.
23. Where oh where has my shade gone? Why did it leave me here to fry like an egg? Heavens to Bessie have these people lost their minds? This ain’t OHIO or Canada people. It actually gets a bit warm here in the South. I like my Roast in the Crock-Pot and not walking around. Imagine in one season how many people will go home like a potato chip all crusty and salted. Now imagine those people when they wake up the next morning and the thoughts they will have.
24. Didn’t use the bathroom the whole time I was there, as I SWEATED it all out, so I have no clue if they still smell like a dead carcass or if they were stocked with necessities.
25. I am tickled that my $10.00 parking fee is helping fix the parking lot. I’d hate the thought of not being able to try out my 4 wheel drive.
26. One last item of interest. They sure can staff the Games and let 2 people play basketball by the tower but they can’t open all the rides!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, so I used to be a Fan boy of Carowinds, USED TO BE. I want the park to do great and I want great things for the park and I want to be a pass holder again and brag to my friends how great the park is. I just don’t understand the logic or thinking behind the decisions that are made. Sure, they are de-Paramounting the park, fixing up some of the attractions and deciding where to go from here but it isn’t just the attractions that bring people back or give the park it’s reputation. Allowing families to walk around or wait in line in some kind of comfort and shade, paying attention to patrons and not each other, when the park is open all day then staff the dang thing and have it ALL open ALL day, don’t make us walk around the entire park 3 or 4 times in a criss-cross pattern, which ain’t getting you more money by giving me more time in the park. I did not see one management person the entire time I was there so the park staff wasn’t any friendlier or concerned as they were in the past, with the exception of the Exit guy which was very cool and friendly. There is more I’d like to say but maybe in another post.
