Hello! New to the site and having a lot of fun reading everyone's trip reports so far! Figured I'd share mine from this past Wednesday (6-16-10). I went with my mom and my sisters and we didn't get to the park until 3:15 PM. We finally took advantage of the gold pass holders' parking lot and got a GREAT spot! I'm 20 and I've been visiting Carowinds almost every summer for the past 10 or so years, on and off; this may have been the best parking spot we've ever gotten.
My little sisters are 11 and just reached the required height for all rides this year. Their very first coaster ever was Intimidator (and one of them got front on her first go), so they instantly became interested in riding every single ride in the park this summer (including water slides). This is was our third trip. After this trip, I believe they only have the "yo-yo" (swings?), the Action FX theatre, Snoopy's Junction, and the Skyflyer to go, along with White Water Falls and the water slides. Our trips are usually only 3-4 hours in length, since we live all of about 10 minutes from the park, and the first two were on a Friday and a Saturday so we didn't get nearly this much done.
From 3:15 PM to 7:45 PM, we managed to tackle 12 rides and probably could have hit a few more if we hadn't stopped for fries at the Jukebox Diner near the Hurler. The fries were REALLY good, by the way! Sometimes it can be hard to find good fries in the park. The Thrill Zone, while not entirely dense with good rides, is a really nice area to chill out in. The bathrooms were really clean and nice, the water fountain was ice cold, and the crew working in the diner was really great.
All in all, we rode...Scrambler, Scream Weaver, Ricochet, Hurler, Cyclone, Goldrusher, Cobra, Vortex (when did it get so...painful?
), Boo Blasters, Intimidator, Rip Roarin' Rapids, and the Drop Tower (twice). The longest line we waited in was for no more than 5 minutes at the Ricochet and we could have ridden multiple rides more than once because there was no one at all in line.
It was my first time on the Cobra since I didn't hit up the park any last year nor the year before I don't think. It was great, albeit a little rocky in places, and overall I think this was probably one of the best trips to Carowinds I've ever had. I think Wednesday afternoon trips to the park are probably going to become a regular thing for me this summer.
