A Disney worker died Monday after suffering injuries Sunday while repairing the Primeval Whirl roller coaster.

Russell Sherry Roscoe, 52, suffered head injuries while working on the Animal Kingdom ride. A co-worker called 911 and said Roscoe had been hit by a moving coaster car.

The ride was closed for maintenance, and the accident was not visible to park visitors.

A worker died on the same ride in 2007. Karen Price, 63, was hit by a coaster car while working on a loading platform. After that incident, Disney added sensors to prevent incidents in that area of the ride. Disney was faulted for safety violations and was fined.

Primeval Whirl is a Reverchon dual-tracked, spinning wild mouse coaster. It opened in 2002.

That is certainly a sad event and my heart goes out to her family and friends.

We've been fortunate enough to have only experienced one death at Carowinds, and that situation had to be investigated fully before any real answers came.

I know what you mean. If the lockout lock is not in place, don't go out there. But in the case of the Carowinds death, it was a guest, who was not in the lockout area.

Wait, who was the one person to die at Carowinds? I have only seen reports of small injuries over the years.

Long before the days of Paramount and Ceder Fair, there was a ride in the park called White Lighting. I think it was the first of the boomerang coasters and it sat right across from where the present boomerang coaster (The Cobra) is. From what I understand, WL is in Africa now. Anywho, a young girl was standing in the station waiting to ride and she fell over dead. It was determined that she'd been shot. After a thorough investigation, an illegal shooting rang was discovered a distance away from the Carowinds, and a stray bullet had found it's way to the ride. This story made local news and was updated when the shooting range was discovered. I'm surprised more people don't know anything about it.

She was not in the station, instead she was in the wave pool area. Back then it was called Ocean Island. Everyone that day knew it was not fault of CW, but took investigation to find where the bullet came from. I knew people working all over the park at that time and no one was blaming CW for the incident.

That's right. Carowinds wanted to know what happened just like the rest of us did.
Thanks for clarifying exactly where the girl was when the incident happened. What year was that, and do you know what happened to the people who operated the shooting range?

Animal Kingdom is the only world of Disney's I haven't seen yet. I would definitely like to visit it.

Yeah thanks, I might have heard something about that. Oh and White Lightning was not a boomerang coaster (those didn't come out till the late 80's/early 90's) It was a shuttle launch coaster with a single loop.

Man, what are the odds of that?

My prayers are with this person's family, they must be going through a lot right now.

In your complete honesty, do you enjoy this coaster at all? The entire dino/kids area seems to be taking a dump on all that Disney is, it's almost embarrassing to the park. This coaster has already taken 2 human lives. It's time for it to go.

Lol. My how stories change over time. I've heard a similar version of that story. Instead of a bullet killing that person, I heard that a nail shot off of Thunder Road some how and hit that person in the wave pool.

Yes, you are so right! The stories change as the lips flap. And as time goes on, our recall of events sometimes changes too.

The first Vekoma boomerang came out in 1984 at La Ronde. Yes...1984. I was like really? I have yet to go on one since I hadn't been to Carowinds since '08 when I was up for a visit. I also never got to ride White Lightnin' as it was removed when I was 11 and was too scared to ride it at the time anyways...lol I did ride Viper @ SFOG several times before it moved tho, so at least I've experienced a shuttle loop.

Anyways, back on topic....I've been to AK but didn't ride Primeval Whril because they only had one side open and the line was over an hour. I just didn't feel it was worth it. Mind you I prefer coasters over other attractions and there is that and Expedition Everest (which is great). This visit was my first and only trip to any Disney Park.
