I believe it was Scooby Doo in 1989. That put a terror in me that lasted for several years until I was threatened into riding the Hurler in 1994. That was probably what started the madness, escalated by Alpengeist in 1997 which really introduced me to the world of modern coasters. Another milestone was my first enthusiast event and my first great wooden coaster when I rode the Raven at Stark Raven Mad 2002.

Vortex, the year it opened at (then) Paramount's Great America in Santa Clara. I was terrified of roller coasters before that, but ended up riding everything they had that day.

Scooby Doo around '83. It scared the heck out of me and I refused to get on anything with a track (including the monorail...lol) for years. It wasn't until maybe '90/'91 that I tried another...which was Carolina Goldrusher which I loved. My first coaster with loops was Carolina Cyclone. Seems like Jonathan and I share a similar journey. I jumped up to BGW in '97 and braved Alpengiest (after braving all that Carowinds had to offer of course).

Since my daughter doesn't participate in forums, I'll post this on her behalf.

Her first amusement park was Carowinds and her first coaster was Woodstock Express. I wouldn't let her ride Lucy's Crabby Cabby until she rode the wooden coaster. Every spring she would bring me the tape measure on her own to see if she was 54" so she could ride Afterburn. To this day, she loves coasters and rides any of them with me when we travel. She is only 10 behind me with 234 credits.

For me it's Scooby doo in 1989 then Coney Island Cyclone in '91 followed by Steel Phantom in '96 as to introduce me to big boy coasters which then something clicked and I've been a coaster craze ever since. my family still doesn't understand me. lol
