I Loved the announcement, for several reasons. It shows that Oimet is working towards making the parks nicer, adding in atmosphere. From what I read, it isn't like they're 're-theming' any of the areas, just enhancing the theme already in place and celebrating the park's original areas while re-naming the sections. That's a great thing, IMO. Hopefully they'll tie in the atmosphere in each area nicely. And adding stuff to Anaconda AND Volcano?!? That's great!

It gives me hope that Action Zone and County Fair will get some much needed love, and that some rides will get new light packages at Carowinds. They're already doing it at other parks, so I'm sure a lot of the $50mill will go towards stuff like this at Carowinds, and that's great.

Wonder Mountain’s Guardian - NEW FOR 2014!

Iconic Wonder Mountain Blasted Open to Reveal New Attraction
4-D Interactive Attraction Brings Fans into the Heat of Battle

For more than 30 years, a familiar darkness has surrounded Wonder Mountain at Canada’s Wonderland. Guests and employees alike have suspected a dark mythical presence hidden within this iconic landmark. In May 2014 the park will throw speculation about these myths aside and blast into Wonder Mountain to unveil a thrilling new interactive 4-D dark ride, Wonder Mountain’s Guardian.

Montreal based TRIOTECH, a leading manufacturer of multisensory attractions for the amusement industry, has developed the ground breaking technology for Wonder Mountain’s Guardian. This next generation ride will allow guests to experience stunning 3D effects overlaid with 4-D elements: simulating wind, movement and more. Real time graphics and the fastest most accurate targeting system will be installed to create an ultra-immersive interactive experience.

“This new ride at Canada’s Wonderland will be a one of a kind, never seen before attraction.” said Ernest Yale, President and CEO of TRIOTECH. “It will bring the best elements of the physical, virtual and multi-sensory world. All this combined in a fully immersive and interactive experience."

Here are some pretty good details about the new dark ride/rollercoaster:

- 4D interactive dark ride with the core thrill being heavily based on graphics
- uses 3D projection (riders will wear 3D glasses)
- uses wind, movement and other special effects to add the 4th dimension
- riders will board inside of the mountain near ground level
- the ride will exit the mountain and climb the lift on the mountain exterior
- at the 60' level the ride will plunge back into the mountain
- there will be multiple drops throughout the ride
- 1000 feet of coaster track
- the ride is gravity-driven
- longest interactive wall in the world
- highly sensitive targeting guns that will "interact" with the environment
- content of the ride can be easily changed to vary the experience
- there will be 5 trains, each with 8 riders
- approximately 640 pph
- the engineering department at Wonderland is currently working on designing the track
- the experience changes every year. For 2014, the game is called "Guardian: Quest for Gold"

The premise of the ride is that a Dragon has taken a kingdom's treasure, and you have to retrieve it, while competing for ride supermacy. This picture obviously shows the treasure the Dragon has collected. This is the final level (the dragon's lair).

From this photo, I can make out some of the ride: the fish monster will be part of the underground lake level, the red beard man may be some kind of Guide, the Lizard in the hood looks like some sort of thief, the reptilian-like creature with the armor on must be some kind of Knight, and the dragon in the upper-right corner in obviously Herman. I think the sketch below may be the Draconian City. I wish the scenes were released and or more concept art. Maybe even a video that shows off some of the characters in action. The Characters remind me of Skylanders, but still look pretty awesome.

Seems like fun to me! Personally, I am a dark ride fan. I especially love the interactive ones with the lasers like Boo Blasters. I like getting a higher score every time I play. Unfortuanetly, I do not have a passport. I would not be able to make the trip up to Toronto any time soon. Hopefully the rumors are true that Matt Ouimet is trying to get the dark ride at more of the Cedar Fair Parks.

This is not Triotech's first time with iDR technology(Interactive Dark Ride) as you will seen in this video. Triotech really knows what they're doing! Almost no lagging on the game screens:

This isn't like the Amazing Adventures Spiderman or Curse of DarKastle but it's something new. I do like that the content of the ride can be changed easily for the experience. Cedar Fair has confirmed that it will change into a zombie themed ride for haunt. I wonder if the ride will have a pre-show like Darkastle to explain the ride and get you hyped up.

You would be the first to post it if you posted it 50 days ago.

But yes I agree, hopefully this is a new trend for the chain as has been rumored. As long as they maintain it and don't let all the elements stop working after two years.

The Bat flies again at Kings Island

KINGS ISLAND, Ohio – Thirty-three years to the day it was first introduced in 1980, The Bat will fly again at Kings Island. The 364-acre amusement and waterpark is changing the name and colors of the Flight Deck roller coaster to The Bat. The change will take effect for the 2014 season. “There was a lot of passion and enthusiasm around this name change by our guests,” Kings Island’s vice-president and general manager Greg Scheid said. “They told us this is a name they wanted us to bring back. We listened and we’re excited our guests will again be able to fly The Bat at Kings Island in 2014. “The name also fits the characteristics of the ride. Similar to a bat in flight, riders soar through the air, swooping, circling and diving unexpectedly as they enjoy this ride.” The newly named Bat is similar to its predecessor as a suspended roller coaster with the tracks above the trains. When the coaster train turns a corner, the cars are designed to swing out to the side, sometimes swinging the riders parallel to the ground. The new color scheme for The Bat will feature orange track with two shades of charcoal for the columns and structure. Black will be the featured color of the trains. Designed by the Arrow Dynamics Company, The Bat was custom designed for Kings Island when it debuted as Top Gun in 1993. Riders soar over the tree tops and through a hilly wooden terrain and a series of sharp turns on this seventh generation steel roller coaster. The attraction celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2013, giving its 20-millionth ride in June. The Bat is one of 15 roller coasters at Kings Island, including the new world record-breaking Banshee set to debut in 2014. The original Bat operated for parts of three seasons from 1981 to 1983, giving 1.8 million rides. Kings Island is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, a publicly traded partnership that is listed for trading on The New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “FUN.” In addition to Kings Island, Cedar Fair owns and operates ten other amusement parks, three outdoor water parks, an indoor water park, and five hotels. Cedar Fair also operates the Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park in Gilroy, Calif. under a management contract.

Construction is underway for Lake Erie Eagles and Pipe Scream at Cedar Point. I hope Carowinds will get rid of the dinosaurs and use the Intimidator field for a planet snoopy expansion. A Snoopy's junction that goes all the way around planet snoopy would be nice.
Also, the Busch Gardens Williamsburg 2014 attraction at Water Country appears to be a water slide.

It looks very similar to our Surfer's Swell except longer.
