I do not know what park to choose. My Factors that I am putting into deciding is as follows:

General-
[Pros]
Going last weekend before school for most schools. Hopefully includes smaller crowds.
First visit to a Universal Park

[Cons]
Coming back day before school. :(

Universal Studios-
[Pros]
Great park to start with as it is the original. (in Fla.)

Rides/Attractions looking forward to (off head):
Rip Ride and Rock it!
Mummy
Jaws
Twister

[Cons]
Not many coasters to add to my very low count.

Islands of Adventure-
[Pros]
Butterbeer- Been dying to try it as I heard it was pretty good.
Coasters Coasters Everywhere. (not as many as Carowinds) - Add coasters to count.

Rides/Attractions looking forward to (off head):
Dueling Dragons
Jurassic Park
Hulk
Harry Ride

[Cons]
Extreme Crowds due to Harry Potter Land.

Islands of Adventure(IOA) and Universal Orlando are "parks to love". Either choice is a good one. IF, however, this is the first and perhaps only visit for awhile, I would say IOA. Pay the extra and get the EXPRESS or FAST pass, whatever they call it. We did, on a busy day, and it is worth every penny of it. Be there before the park opens, so you can sprint into the Incredible Hulk and hopefully grab a front row on that great coaster. If you decide on Universal instead, still plan to be there ahead of opening and sprint to Hollywood Rocket. Either way, you will have a GREAT day! Good luck and have fun!

Both are great parks, especially with the Harry Potter area (haven't been there since the addition of it). Islands of Adventure is the better park in my opinion. Hulk is a VERY good ride, and both of the dueling dragons are good, I can't decide which is better. If I remember correctly, the fire dragon is faster, but the blue is more intense. About Rip Ride Rockit: It's one of the roughest new rides in recent memory. The music sort of makes up for it, but it's definitely not smooth. Be sure to get a few rides on The Mummy, that's one of the best dark rides I've been on. If you can only choose one, go with Islands of Adventure. Most of the coasters there have single rider lines, so you'll be able to get your credits easily. Have fun!

I have been leaning toward IOA the most also. We will be doing 2 days of theme parks in Orlando. Not sure of my options for the Monday park. Would love to go to both ioa and uni.

EDIT: I will be going there with my dad and my little under 54 inches bro, so I will be riding allot of the coasters by my self.
