So I'm planning a trip to Thorpe park while I'm here in England and I really want to ride Saw the Ride and the first drop goes over 90 degrees. Now I have never ridden a coaster that has went 90 degrees much less over 90 degrees. Yes I'm a chicken when it comes to hills like that. I can handle speed and all, but I get very wary about the steep hills. For the people that have ridden such rides like Fahrenheit and Mystery Mine how bad is the drop? I'm emetophobic (which is the fear of vomiting) but I loooove my coasters and have yet to get sick on one, but my mind likes to make me believe that a steeper drop could make me sick and that's why I'm scared to ride them. I have ridden every coaster at Carowinds, BGW (except Griffon because I was scared of the drop) , and KD (except 305, I haven't been this year) so can you compare the feeling to any rides from those parks? Yes I know I am a chicken  . I try to tell myself that when you come out of a vertical loop you are going more than 90 degrees but it's not the same  .

To me, the "beyond vertical" drops are barely noticable. The few degree it takes to make it go beyond vertical don't really do anything and you can't tell the difference in a drop of 95 degrees and one of 90.

If you've ridden coasters with steep drops (Millennium Force, Dragster, etc...) the feeling of 95 degrees isn't any worse. Yes, you can see the track curve under you, and you get some airtime, but the feeling isn't any different.

These are my thoughts... Your mileage may vary. :)

Thanks for the advice. I want to ride MF and hopefully I will make it there next summer. The steepest drop I have ever been on would have to be Intimidator at Carowinds, and that had me freaking out (in a good way).

I'm with Jarsh about not telling much difference. In fact, on the 2 beyond 90* drop coasters I've been on (Maverick & Fahrenheit), the only 'difference' was that I felt the back seat got slung over the top of the drop more aggresively than maybe it would have with just a regular drop.

Awesome that makes me feel better. This coaster is either front or back no other choice. I'm excited about getting over my fear with it. Next is 305 I've never been on anything that tall or agressive before.

Just a quick note on vomiting, have you ever tried Ginger tablets? They're cheap and easily obtainable at any Pharmacy or big box store. I know it works for my motion sickness (not the same thing as you, obviously), but I read up on why Ginger is so good for upset stomachs and what I read was:

When you get motion sickness, your body is confused and thinks you may have ingested some type of poison or something that could be harmful because motion sickness simulates many symptoms of various poisons (food poison is an example).

Your body then reacts by making your sick enough to vomit out poison that isn't actually there.

However, Ginger has the ability to affect certain parts of your body that control vomiting, and it 'desensitizes' the parts of your body that make you want to throw up, making it so that you don't get motion sickness.

If you find Ginger Tablets, though I would suggest taking one or 2 of them with breakfast an hour or 2 before riding (if you don't take it with food, you'll be belching ginger and that isn't fun, trust me). Also, unless you're allergic to Ginger, there are absolutely no side effects.

I started taking Ginger Pills about 6 years ago, and they've done wonders for me.

Yea I used to take them when I was prego because I didn't want to take my phenergan which is what my dr keeps me on for my phobia. I usually take half of one before going to the parks but that's more to calm me down because before I got them I never got sick on roller coasters only carnival rides make me want to throw up. Roller coasters don't affect me in that way. The only feeling I get is that stomach dropping but never any nausea, but after I heard of alot of people like coaster enthusiast not being able to reride 305 because it would make them naseous then again that was before the trims. I love my coasters but if I'm feeling the least bit queezy I just don't ride and enjoy the park food instead considering I never get a chance to do that when I'm actually riding rides because I don't want to have alot on my stomach. I have a kink in my stomach that makes me naseous enough after eating so I don't want to mix that with rides lol.

My post didn't show up from yesterday. Hmm...

Anyway, what they said above is completely true. I rode Mystery Mine quite a few times this past year and with a 90 degree drop, you just get some air time with the drop. It makes it a bit more exciting.

With that being said, we loved Mystery Mine the first time we rode it, but by about the sixth time we were finding that your head kept banging against the head restraints making it rough.

Thanks for all of yall clearing that up. I guess with my phobia I was more worried about it making me sick considering I have never experienced anything like that before. Now I'm not so scared to try it..

I completely understand. Now that I'm 'older' I don't do so well on many of the rides that go around in a circle. I've never gotten truly sick from them but they give me motion sickness. Thank goodness coasters don't affect me that way!

I'm the exact same. I used to have no problem on any carnival ride other than the swings and the scrambler used to be my favorite but the last time I rode that I almost got sick on my poor sister  . I have never gotten nauseous on any coaster that I have ever been on though.
