Industry News

(4/24/12) The Travel Channel will be showing off a couple of new shows this summer of interest to theme park fans. One is called Xtreme Waterparks and it will premier Sunday, July 8th at 8pm (EST/PST) as they seek out the world’s most over the top water slides.

The other is called Insane Coaster Wars, which will also premier on Sunday, July 8th at 9pm (EST/PST), in a series that not only seeks out the best coasters, but invites thrill seekers to vote in an interactive online poll to vote for their favorite coasters in each episode. The finale episode of the season will count down the Top 10 coasters from the season with the most votes.

When they were filming I thought it was going to be just one show. Besides Bert The Conqueror, that's how it's usually been done in the past every few years as an update. Fortunately it's a whole season of shows! I know some of you may have been at the Carowinds shooting, so look out for yourselves in the episodes. Several other parks were used as well. I was @ Seaworld Orlando when they shot Manta, so I can't wait for that one to come on. I'll post in here as more details become available.

Each episode is going to focus on a specific grouping of coasters. I know one show is focused on tall rides and one is focused on woodies. The Great Adventure shoot was kind of interesting because Kingda Ka and El Toro will be on different episodes, so there could not be any references from one to the other.

Well I'll be on July 8th if I made it into the footage...lol One thing tho...who came up with these comparison categories? SkeiKra a "G-Force Giant"? I mean it's a nice ride and all but nowhere near the force of Kraken, Manta or Montu (listed in other categories). I think it would have worked better under "Wrong Way Up" (switching with Kraken) or "Extreme Heights". So far the only 2 categories that make sense to me are the "Hang 'em High" and "Splintering Speedsters". To each his own I guess.

The categories don't make sense at all for who is in them. It's just for show really. I mean, why is Intimidator against the highest roller coaster in the world for extreme heights?? Makes no sense to me.

Like I said before, Hang em High makes sense since they are inverts and a flyer. Splintering Speeders makes sense since they are all wood. Also after reading the full description of "Wrong Way Up" (below), I guess that makes sense as well except for Wild Eagle, as it only has 4 inversions.

Here is the full list of coasters and category descriptions from the Travel Channel:

The last 2 They didn't add the TBD just yet.

These are what are in the link a few posts up:

They did go to Cedar Point, so TTD and Millennium Force are on there I believe. Also Griffon (BGW) may be as well. Hopefully they will post soon.

That was fun trying to explain that to Sarah.

Me: Oh sh**, that's Jonathan.
Her: Oh cool, you know him?
Me: Well, not exactly... you see he runs this Carowinds forum.
Her: A what?
Me: It's a place online to talk about Carowinds.
Her: Um, OK. Then how do you know what he looks like.
Me: Well, there was a picture of him in his avatar some time ago.
Her: His what?
Me: Nothing... I don't know him.
