uscbandfan wrote:True. You are just quoting terminal velocity of a man which is approximately 120mph. 120 mph is about 5.6 seconds to travel 1000 feet. But you have to start from a downward velocity of zero at the crest of a hill.

How much complex math would you expect public relations teasers to use? :-D

Besides, no roller coaster starts with a downward velocity of zero (ok, the flying cobra does). It has an unspecified forward velocity which is redirected downward by the track, giving it a running start into the descent. A coaster travelling at 50mph as it crests the hill will reach the bottom a lot quicker than a stopped coaster that just releases it's brakes.

um... DUH. EVERY... EVERY... EVERY coaster starts down with a downward velocity of zero.

Let me be more clear... You go up a hill at 10 mph. If the angle of your ascent is 45 degrees, your upward velocity would be roughly 7 mph. Your lateral velocity would also be roughly 7 mph. You get to the top, if the chain hasn't stopped, your lateral velocity would then be 10 mph and your vertical (downward or upward) velocity WOULD BE ZERO.

The 50mph example you mentioned is my exact example of Fury when I mentioned the angle of descent and speed of the train. The speed of Fury over the top almost balances out the momentum lost by the increasing angle of descent at the top and decreasing angle of descent at the bottom. (and the fact that it never reaches vertical.)

(I will say that if you crest the first hill at 50mph then you're gonna have some KILLER airtime.) :D

Carowinds on twitter said it will be a real "doozy"
Doozy is also referenced back in the 1920's for Doosenburg cars.

This doesn't really add to the conversation, but thought I'd bring up the thought haha.

Keep it up with all of the updates guys!  :D

Not to be rude dude, but some of us prefer to avoid major social media sites. While I always appreciate your pictures, please don't force me to go to Facebook to look at them.

As I said ill upload here later, im not home and my phone wasn't letting me. Ill get some on here later.

The concrete pad seems to be the center for the flyers from what I could tell. The circle is definitely more visible. Wouldnt be surprised if the entire pad is poured next week....

Lets try again... I can post more when I get home.

Here are a few more, get the general idea I suppose. Sorry couldn't post sooner.

Here is a look at the construction area from the waterpark

Here are a few from above, it looks like that pile of dirt is still being flatten like a ramp, not taken out? There is also something going on in the woods, maybe a new tram road to the campground? I also have heard they may move the campground entrance and make the old a employees only entrance, anyone else heard this?

I’m probably wrong but when paramount owned Carowinds and had Winterfest the flyers weren’t open. That could change though because cedar fair knows more about stuff like that.

That is inaccurate, I worked the entire length of Winterfest 2005 in Nick Central. I was assigned to Upper Nick which included Flyers, Biplanes, Jets and Carousel. There was a couple nights that Flyers didn’t operate but it operated the majority of the event.

Yesterday Carowinds tweeted an "ICYMI" post about the hotel and a link to read more about it.

I think they know we are speculating about the hotel being included in the announcement so they put that tweet out to remind us that it already had its big announcement and that this one will be something entirely different....

At least I hope that's the case.

This argument makes no sense to me, nobody has to do any complex math to make the teasers, they simply would already have the stats of the roller coaster.

Your whole point was that it was physically possible for a roller coaster to drop 500 feet in 2.5 seconds, and our friend uscbandfan explained to you why it’s not. No disrespect to you at all, I think it’s awesome that you put your idea out there, but the physics just aren’t right.

Personally, I think the number on the teaser is 530, not 53.0. It’s possible that the 2.5 maybe actually DOES have a decimal point, but it just blends in with the number due to the font choice. The 530 clearly has no decimal. And I haven’t seen Carowinds make any posts correcting it to 53.0 so my guess is launch length then. I could be wrong!
