Not for 2020 but I would love a frisbee that would swing over the State line at some point

2023 sounds right for the next "big" coaster. Not 2020. A conversion in 2020 maybe... Hurler?

For 2023, let's use the area of Camera2, kill the dinos and put something along the lines of Steel Vengeance there. We have hills there. We have foliage there. We have space there.
The area between Afterburn and the Hanna-Barbera/Snoopy entrance has always seemed like dead space. Let's put the entrance right there.... but let's wait until 2023 and enjoy our moonshine until then.

I could really see them doing a “one wet one wild” type of expansion where they add a slide and a flat. In that case my money’s on a mat Racer and a frisbee.

For 2020, I'm calling addition to the waterpark. They have removed two attractions since the addition of Carolina Harbor.

Fingers crossed for Mat Racer. I think it would go over well with the Carowinds crowd.

no disrespect, but someone has to come to the carowinds enthusiasts fan site, click into the thread about what is under construction for 2019, and read the posts to see the leaks. It's not like it's something that is unavoidable.

I enjoyed the speculation and visual clues for months leading up to the announcement; I was just skeptical they were all correct. Turned out they were (blueprints, trademarked name, Mack plant rep misspoke about the "Carolina" track going to "California", granny, moonshine)

For 2020 I hope Carowinds gets a Cedar Point - sized Giant Frisbee...Not the one of the size at KD. For 50th anniversary, which I'd bet is the soonest Carowoinds gets another coaster, I hope it's an RMC coaster like Twisted Timbers.

2021 will probably see a "family" expansion where Dinosaurs Alive currently sits, whether it be something similar to what Cedar Point is getting for 2019, a new flat, a Camp Snoopy expansion, or some combination of the above. This will likely include a facelift of the Crossroads area and South Gate.

2022 is where the speculation starts getting interesting. Assuming Crossroads gets facelifted in 2021, the only major area of the park still showing the malaise of the Paramount days will be Thrill Zone. (I am aware that Carolina Boardwalk was from the Paramount days, but honestly it was probably the best themed area of the park.)

I definitely think Jukebox Diner will get a major overhaul and/or complete replacement when they address that area of the park. The real question is, what will the big attraction be? An RMC conversion of Hurler is definitely a possibility, but since this is a speculation thread, I'm going to speculate: I think Rip Roarin' Rapids is removed and replaced with a major coaster, either a dive machine or a GCI twister.

The south gate really is an embarassment...it needs some major work

I don't see them taking out Rip Roarin Rapids (always seems to have a good line) versus doing something with Vortex

If they do something with the Hurler area, it would be a good time to remove Cyclone

And they really ought to do something about Nighthawk which was another Paramount mistake... a rough ride with slow lines

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE this for 2020!

A Frisbee and a Mat Racer. Wet and Wild. That's the way to go.

Also, it's the 40th Anniversary of CAROLINA CYCLONE. So a new paint job, new signage/theming, and new trains with the vest restraints would be freaking phenomenal. Replace all the asphalt over there with brick pavers too. It's ugly back that way.

I guess this is part speculation, part wish list through 2023:

End of 2019: Dinosaurs Alive Closes. All the ones that opened in 2012 are closing this year (Kings Dominion announced theirs was leaving yesterday), so with that and KI's closed last year after 7 years it's pretty much a no-brainer. (Valleyfair & World's OF Fun also for 2019 as the last of them)

2020: Carolina Harbor addition (Matt Racers perhaps?)

2021: Thrilling Flat (frisbee?); prepping area for 2022 addition(s)

2022: New coaster (GCI, RMC wood?) using part/most of Dinos area

2023: Camp Snoopy Expansion with remaining Dinos area bringing a connecting path back around Woodstock Express as there used to be. Big 50th celebration event/festival celebrating the Carolinas coming together.

How about speculation on what won't happen?

The next "big" coaster won't be where DA is, because that's basically the only real estate for expanding Camp Snoopy. (I wont discount a large flat next to Afterburn, though.)

An RMC conversion of Hurler won't happen in the next four or five years because it would likely require the closure of Silver Scream Sinemas for at least a season, if not permanently. Also, given that Dollywood, SFOG, and KD have recent RMC rides, I don't think Cedar Fair will be in a hurry to redo the only full-sized wooden ride in the park.

Vortex will not get a floorless conversion. It is simply too small of a ride to be worth the expense.

In fact, I don't think either Vortex or Nighthawk will be around in five years. The two (arguably) worst coasters in the park occupy a very large section of prime real estate in the center of the park, and both of them put together don't approach the ridership of any of the large B&Ms.

I really do think that the next major coaster will occupy wither the Vortex/Nighthawk spot or the RRR spot, because both areas are currently very underutilized.

The former Vortex at California’s Great America, now a floorless as Patriot, is shorter in track length than our Vortex. With that said I was almost certain we would have seen ours converted by now, maybe 2020? I’m holding out hope that we will see ours removed. I feel the park could and should do something better with the space but perhaps a conversion is inevitable.

As far as Dino’s, I’d be all for some antique cars. We also don’t know what Cedar Fair and their relationship with RMC will look like moving forward. The three RMCs didn’t have the best start reliability wise this season while Hangtime seems to be a big hit at Knott’s. Valravn (and now Yukon) has gotten very positive reception from park goers (guess what, parks don’t care what enthusiasts think of B&Ms) and so has Mystic Timbers.

Things could go any which way next but I wouldn’t be so certain of a sequel to Twisted Timbers.
