General Carowinds discussion

I haven't actually seen anyone post about how they are upset carowinds is getting this coaster. It's actually been a lot of praises because most of us know that regardless of where it is, the US needs more Mack coasters. I'm actually glad it's getting raved reviews from the community. Now the GP, that's another story . . .
I have a feeling the GP will love the launch. I could also see them calling the ride slow and boring

I mean I get it: Carowinds has been “spoiled” beyond belief, but that’s because it sits in a market of nearly 15 million people with no direct competition from other amusement parks. The idea that parks have “turns” and that it’s time for a park that hasn’t built a coaster to build one is ignorant of factors of the very basic concept of market size. This wouldn’t happen if the smaller parks weren’t owned by Cedar Fair, but because the company is headlined by Cedar Point, people expect their local parks to become mega-parks.

Hell, even the fanbase of Kings Island has some people who think they’re “neglected” for “only” getting an antique autos attraction and a restaurant within the last two years.

Magic Mountain is our direct competition, ask coaster bruh, he's been saying it all week long.

A moonshine running car-themed coaster, with two launches and loads of airtime, is the perfect tribute to them. I’ll always miss Thunder Road, but this feels like a proper replacement even though it’s not wooden.

Because it's really not. My thing is, moonshine is moonshine. It's too broad a scope to automatically link it to thunder road. It's not like how the park was vocal with the reusing of Blackbeard's Revenge. There really isn't a direct correlation between the three. This so happens to be a launched coaster, like white lightning and so happen to carry a similar theme that thunder road once had.

There's even more to it though:
-White Lightning is a nickname for moonshine
-thunder and lightning obviously go together, and lightning "strikes"
-Copperhead Strike is going to be located pretty close to where White Lightnin and Thunder Road were
There are a lot of connections, and I really appreciate that.

Unrelated but does anyone else think the loops look really circular for how small they are? Aren't loops usually more elongated because circular loops have too much force if the radius is small? Maybe they're normal and I'm crazy, but I still feel like they look more circular than they should.

I couldn't care less about how cohesive the back story is or isn't. Hell, it could have been theme to taking a dump in an out house on fire for all I care, THE PARK IS GETTING AN EXTREMELY UNIQUE, CUSTOM, DUAL LAUNCH MACK COASTER!

If anyone wants more fleshed out storylines then go to Disney. . . Or to the movies.

Circular loops are generally more forceful, they’re usually only found on Schwarzkopfs. I will say though that this looks even more circular than something like White Lightnin’ or even Mind Bender at SFOG, it’s an odd design choice.

Btw the webcam facing the site is back up again.

I get what you're saying but they are pure coincidences. It's not like the park sat down and said "hummm, let's find a way to connect this coaster to thunder road and white lightning". If that were the case, they would have verbalized it. These are all just fan theories . . .

And there is nothing wrong with fan theories.

Capler wrote:RollerBee, I agree with you on the backstory. It struck me as being somewhat flimsy. The copperhead snake really does not fit with the backstory. I feel they shoehorned it in by saying the farm was infested with them. To me it seems they had a cool name, but then separately come up with the Byrd farm story. They then had to figure out how to fit the cool name in. I know, I know, Roller and I are way over thinking this thing but the snake wasn't needed here at all to make it work. Hell even granny, stomped the snake and pick it up and threw it off the stage like she was tired of being forced to work with it. When the ride opens, you are probably not even going to see the snake again, other than in the logo. Poor snake.

I agree 100%. With the name the I thought they were implying Venom was being added into the moonshine. Like the secret jam was a combination of moonshine, venom and other material.

I didn’t understand the snake wasn’t that big of a deal until I noticed the train is not a snake.

Edit: And no I am not complaining or some other thing like that. I was just a bit confused.

Maybe this is more appropriate for the wishlist thread, but there's isn't a "Blue Ridge Junction" thread so...

Anyone else excited to see how the area around Copperhead Strike changes? I think it's gonna look amazing, based on what little info we do have of their plans (specifically with regards to Wings/Country Kitchen).

Here are a few ideas I think would be kinda cool:

Image

This one's easy since Wings already kinda has a barn-like exterior. They could replace the flags on the roof with NC/SC/USA/Carowinds ones too. Rocking chairs on the wraparound porch would be nice and quaint as well. I can practically see the red and white colors already!

Image

On to the large arcade building. I don't know if they're planning on keeping it as an arcade, but either way, the facade needs a major face lift if they want it to match the rest of the area's impressive Blue Ridge Junction theme. For this side section, I think the blue would look great as a small town post office, and the other portion could be a charming little country store / gift shop.

Image

The exterior here would look cool as a rural gas station. Maybe throw some classic cars or trucks over here too, along with a pair of old gas pumps, some stacked tires, etc.. Could look very cool! As for a name, why not EARL'S GASOLINE & HARDWARE, named after Carowind's founded E. Pat Hall?

Image

This section of the Arcade looks the most Amusement Park-y to me. But why not have it be an extension of the gas station's hardware store. Maybe have a small garage section with an oldschool phone booth, a coke machine, an ice box, etc., and other interactive photo ops?

Image

We know from the renderings that a cop car might be placed near Copperhead Strike, since what Granny's been cooking up isn't exactly legal... so this part of the Arcade's frontage could be made to look like the outside of a county sheriff's station. Cops gotta come from somewhere right? Plus, it kinda ties in with sheriff (or deputy?) character the park has already established.

Image

The frozen juice bar next to Windseeker would make a great fresh produce stand. Sell some fresh fruit like the Coke Freestyle shop in Thrill Zone, along with the stand's signature Minute Maid drinks.

Image

The ICEE stand might get demolished because it's kinda close to the new path they're supposed to be making. But if not, why not transform it into an old-fashioned ice cream stand? They could still sell ICEEs of course, but it would look a lot more immersive.

Image

Ok, this one's fun! So Windseeker already look kinda like a giant windmill. You wouldn't need to rename it or anything, but why not take this as an opportunity to bring back a small windmill like the one that used to be on the island in the middle of the lake (where Nighthawk currently sits)? It could look disused and broken down, so it would make sense for that this little Blue Ridge town had to build a big, fancy new one (Windseeker)! I'd stick it in the middle of the seating area next to the ride.

I'm beyond excited to see what they do with this area. If each section ends up as strongly themed as County Fair, we'll be looking at a whole new Carowinds! :D

I love your windmill idea.

I don’t mean to think badly of cedar fair or Carowinds, but I doubt they’d go that far with a established ride.

But then again they have talked about immersion being much more important going forward. I really hope they mean it.
