General Carowinds discussion

Nighthawk is terrible. One might wish for the storm to spin off a small tornado and touch down only long enough to take out both it and Vortex, but I'd rather Cedar Fair sell both and replace with better. B&M Dive and Intamin Megalite?

I'm with you Crave. I'm more than willing to give up two for one. Coaster count means nothing when several of your rides are lackluster. I don't think Nighthawk is a bad ride, it simply represents a deficit for the park. The positive is that it adds to the coaster count, it is a unique experience flying coaster, and is very photogenic. The negative is that it is a one and done credit ride. It takes up valuable real estate, is very slow loading, and uncomfortable for many folk. For me it is a bit unsettling having my head that close to the track when you are not in the flying position. I'm ok with it in the prone position because I can tilt my head forward. This is simply my little quark about the ride.

And remember this is still a transplanted ride so it already was removed from one park for various reasons and as for Vortex I haven’t rode this ride in probably 10 years or more.....yes I grew up in the 80s but I wasn’t a head banger and never will be

It was only relocated because California’s Great America is 1/4 the size of Carowinds and water parks are more valuable in California.

Umm no, it opened as Boomerang Bay in 2004 and got expansions in 2005 and 2007.

A large section of park next to the waterpark was cleared this including the removal of two rides. I assume they will get a waterpark expansion in 2019 or 2020.

Great America didn’t get any new rides after 2008 until Gold Striker in 2013.

Umm, no it opened as Crocodile Dundee’s Boomerang Bay and it 2007 became Boomerang Bay with a huge addition of a wave pool. The park has said only infrastructure improvements for 2019, no major water park plans.

Ok, this topic is way off, maybe move this over to general park discussion or something. Honestly nighthawk is going to stay, I don’t see why y’all hate it SO MUCH, I mean I don’t like it but I don’t go on a big rant about how much I hate it, it’s staying because it is a huge GP attraction they love nighthawk and on the weekends it almost gets to the queue entrance which is a 2 hour wait. As for Vortex I think they should just scrap it, maybe move it over to one of the smaller CF parks and give it floorless trains and put a gerstlauer in its spot because those rides can be compact, and carousel park really needs an upgrade, all they changed this year was the pavement and moved the carousel, they need a high thrill ride there that will attract more people. Something like hangtime maybe? We know CF now likes to add dive coasters to parks, example: Knott’s, CP, CW.

Also looks like the tentative date for WWU at Carowinds is February 23rd (Saturday).

Lol! I meant Dive*, I apologize for the auto correction.

3 vekomas operating now at:
Carowinds
Canadas Wonderland
Kings Island
Magic Kingdom

i don't think carowinds is "doing it wrong" any more than the 3 other parks with the same quantity of vekomas

A lot of that is the opinion of enthusiasts. There is really nothing wrong with those Vekomas, they are just not as comfortable and smooth as some newer coasters.

It's like my car is the Vekoma of cars and is 11 years old. Do I want a shiny new car that rides smooth and quiet with some fancy new gadgets in it? Of course I do. But it is paid for and I am continuing to enjoy no car payment since it still reliably gets me around so I'm trying to milk it for a few more years.

Those coasters are paid for and people continue to ride them. I'm sure the park wants to replace them, and they will in due time. None of them are terrible in my opinion.
