I think each situation of removal is approached as a unique one. I have never heard of downtime with scream weaver so I don't think they will remove it for the sake of removing it. The impression I got, as nothing was given to me cut and dry, is that rapids is out for this season while they decide which direction they want to go with it. No mention if it was due to mechanical issues or what. Based on that, I don't think they are scraping it because they would do it while they have a crew currently there.

From my understanding, there are still 4 areas in the park that will be revamped. I have no idea the exact areas but we already have seen the county fair, carolina harbor, camp snoopy, blue ridge junction and arguably carousel park get refreshed and or gutted.

4 areas huh?

Carolina Boardwalk, Entrance Plaza, and I’m at a loss for the other two. Thrill zone and another new area? Curious to see what the next couple years have in store

If I had to guess, I’d say Crossroads, Dinosaurs Alive once the exhibit leaves, and Thrill Zone. I think they’re fine with the Boardwalk, other than Goldrusher it has a very appropriate atmosphere. Don’t know what the third area would be. Maybe the Plaza?

Yes, the plaza still needs to be completed to eliminate the art deco and Crossroads.

Thrill zone is fine. Could use some pavers and minor updates like expanding the restaurant but I could see saving that area for last.

If there are indeed four sections of the park on the list...

The four I see being revamped next (in no particular order)...

Celebration Plaza
Thrill Zone (to include whatever is in the RRR spot to be accessed from there... even if it is still RRR)
CrossRoads - (including Dino)
Boardwalk

My wishlist for carowinds- get rid of nighthawk, replace it with another launch coaster. Don't rmc hurler (cuz it's not that bad) and then use the DA land for a sick GCI like gold striker, thunderhead, and mystic timbers!

I remade my Pirate Island concept into something slightly different, and I also have a few ideas for what it would mean for the park.

No more showbuilding, as it would probably be too expensive for the park to construct (not to mention unnecessary). It also allows for a pathway to be built behind the Rapids into the Thrill Zone.

As for the poorly-drawn shopping/entertainment area, this is something that would fall in line with the future investment strategies outlined in the last CF conference call. It would be something in the vein of Ghost Town Alive at KBF, or Forbidden Frontier at CP, as it would be an immersive family area that incorporates shopping and live performances into the experience. I don't think it would be tucked away like this, but it's really a new opportunity for the park to create a living, breathing area in the vein of what Universal and Disney have been doing with their IP's (albeit on a much, much smaller scale).

I'm actually confident in saying that this is something I think we will see in 2021, as Cedar Fair is beginning to move towards more immersive and experience-based investments than large-scale thrill rides (on a regular basis, not entirely). And with Carowinds in particular, they've been very focused on bringing the park's history and culture into the future. Pirate Island would be one of the most valuable ideas they could bring back, especially for a concept like the Ghost Town Alive & Forbidden Frontier areas.

I think we need to remove the palladium and put it near the hotel and that would open up so much more possibilities for a couple new areas or a new signature ride

Instead of the tunnel to the left of the restaurant, why not extend the longest north section (just below "Fury") to go under the walkway and then meet up just north of the restaurant. Lowers the ride time down, but open a little "island" to have another flat ride. Also, along that pathway to Fury would be ample areas to add locations where guests can pay to shoot water at passing rafts.

Ah, I see what you’re saying. The tunnel was supposed to be a mini show-building from similar to the one housing the Bigfoot animatronic on Calico River Rapids for a small show scene, but that could easily be relocated somewhere else along the path (maybe even towards the beginning of the ride. As for pathway along Fury, I completely agree with you. Instead of it just being a walkway, it optimizes space for guest interactivity.

Something I think would be really cool is a splash playground similar to Shipwreck Shore at Shamghai Disneyland. You could even build the playground above the Rapids to save space, and it could double as theming for the actual ride.

[EDIT] Carowinds actually had an attraction somewhat similar to this called ‘Blackbeard’s Hold’. Tons of ideas from the park’s history: http://carowindsearlyyears.com/boat.html

I like the idea of moving the paladium towards the hotel. However, i wonder what the GP would think to see it gone. I think a nice flat ride could fit there, or possibly a small rmc or a gci woodie. ALSO: this will sound really dumb, but what if we brought back Thunder Road as an rmc? I know that's been thrown around before, but I think that would give a taste of nostalgia to older carowinds fans.

The expense of destroying and relocating the Paladium would be a non starter because they would never recoup that investment. Also, moving next to the hotel would be a traffic nightmare for regular visitors to the park and the hotel not to mention the pedestrian nightmare as well trying to cross the incoming traffic. (Remember a sports facility is going on the bus-lot side of the hotel so the only place remaining would be on the Cabelas side.)

I think, as long as the few concerts they have per year out-gross the upkeep of the facility, they'll keep it. Every time they have a music day, the park is beyond slammed.

Unless its replacement brings in more. I'd like to think they've analyzed all of this and have decided keeping it (up to now, at least) is a better money maker than anything else that could take the place.

Keeping in line with bringing immersive family experiences to Carowinds, here's my idea for how to incorporate Crossroads into Blue Ridge Junction:

The area itself would be somewhat of a combination of Grizzly Peak Airfield (DCA) and Wilderness Pass (Dollywood). The games would be removed, new landscaping with hills and trees would take place of Southern Star, and a firetower would be the land centerpiece.

Attractions:

FLYING HIGH THROUGH THE CAROLINA SKY

PvZ can go, I somewhat enjoy it but I'm not really attached to it. In its place, a flying theater attraction from Dynamic Attractions (or Triotech) would take its place. It would be similar to Wings over Washington in Seattle. The facade of the building would be repainted similar to this:

Image

With the size of the vehicle, the queue could easily be moved inside of the building. They could even potentially fit two theaters. The queue would be themed with wildlife animatronics such as black bears, bobcats, and hawks, and the ride would fly from the mountains to the coast and back.

BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY

An antique autos attractions would replace Yo-Yo and take over the outdoor queue line for PvZ. The ride would be surrouned by scenery (trees, boulders, waterfalls), and it would go under Afterburn's drop via a tunnel shaped like this:

Image

I'm not really sure what I would do with Dod'gems. It doesn't really fit with the area, but it doesn't take away from the theme either. Maybe just give it a facade update.
