General Carowinds discussion

I would think this ride may take a little longer to work out the kinks than say a ride like Fury with the launches and barn sequencing. Plus I'm bored and tired of checking this thread everyday with almost no new developments

I agree with you. Also the other 2 trains haven't even arrived yet. This ride is certainly going to need a lot of test runs done due to the 2 launches and everything. Not loosing hope quite yet, but I have a feeling there could be a very slight possibility that Copperhead Strike's opening day may be delayed, especially if they run into issues while testing.

How do we know all trains haven't arrived? The park doesn't need to tell us when each train arrives. They all look the same.

All test cycles that need to be done can also be completed in a few days to a week. Still have loads of time.

Yes, every coaster installation does a full pull-thru to check fitment and clearances before a full test run. It typically takes three to seven days, and I expect that CS will fall in the four to five day range because they will need to test the launches along the way. Once the pull-thru is complete they can begin cycling the full circuit.

I think it will live up to the hype especially since cedar fair is doing something they've never done before- ACTUALLY THEMING A RIDE! Yes, they hired a theming company to ACTUALLY THEME THE RIDE! Hallelujah! This ride will be great!

I also think the trains look SWEET from what I can see. it has that antique car look (CoughKingsIslandcough) and it reminds me of the cool trains on Twisted Timbers at KD. I'm excited for the theming and the thrills!

I think it was Carowinds that stated the ride would go through 1,000 test runs. At 3 minutes a run, that's 3,000 minutes or 50 hours. They could easily do that in a week. And this is giving one train a full run-through before dispatching the next one.

Of course, these test runs are probably after all the other kinks (launch testing and calibration come to mind) are completed.

Cedar Fair has actually themed rides before and they also update and maintain the theming to several other rides who theming predates Cedar Fair. Copperhead just seems to go above the bar when it comes to theming for a park like Carowinds.

I do agree. However, I do like that carowinds is not pulling a "what's in the shed?" thing, as it kind of disappointed a lot of enthusiasts in 2017. i think the theming will be more impressive than the themes of mystic and twisted timbers. the storyline seems to be a lot less vague than the past two heavily themed coasters in the chain.

Can someone explain this to me? The coaster is the coaster, it is the ride. What's the obsession with theming? How is it any better or worse, when it's still the same coaster? Do people really sit down, close their eyes, and imagine they're racing a car through the back roads of Carolina, because that's the storyline the park has fed them? I really dont get it.

It adds to the experience.

People go to theme parks for the same reason they indulge in any other form of entertainment; to escape their lives for a little while. Having fun on rides helps you forget any troubles that are waiting for you at home, and the increase in theming helps further immerse you in the park.

There’s a reason why parks like Disney and Universal attract millions upon millions of people. Put Space Mountain in an empty field and tell me with a straight face that you would expect it to get the same level of crowds. Another example is the Flight of Fear clones. Having ridden both the Fof’s and Joker’s Jinx, I can tel you hands down that the theming on the former makes it better.

If you haven’t ridden Big Thunder Mountain at a Disney park, watch a POV on YouTube.

Then imagine the coaster without the mountain.

Imagine Space Mountain but without the building around it.

That said, compare Flight of Fear with Jokers Jynx.

As far as Copperhead Strike, I don’t think the theming will add much but that is just my opinion. It isn’t like the theming that Disney or Universal does, just Paramount level theming.
