In terms of things the park is truly missing, there’s not enough shade, there are no full-service restaurants, and there’s a lack of indoor attractions for a park in the Deep South. I’d be fine if the park took a decade break from building coasters in order to fill in some of the gaps.

I second this
I never thought I'd say this but I agree. With the addition of Copperhead Strike Carowinds now has four coasters that are on par with other parks top offerings. Add in the rest of the lineup and I think we compete very well with most other parks in that dept.

All of those items listed are definitely gaps and need some attention to really complete the park. I would add to the list a top notch flat.

So back to 2020. If Rapids is either being refurbished for 2021 or gone for good, what could we realistically see next year?

I would predict general infrastructure updates considering this year is pretty huge, so new landscaping and pathway renovations are a given, as well as new food offerings. What will be the new headlining attraction (or attractions)? Will the park focus their attention on the water park again? It’s lost two attractions since it reopened as Carolina Harbor (Southern Sidewinder and Sand Dune Lagoon). I mean that seems like the most obvious area they’d want to improve in to add capacity to the park.

Maybe open some sort of Pseudo-water coaster like Ray Rush at Aquatica? Higher capacity, and a lower height requirement at 42”.

with carolina harbor, what if we did something like the Verruckt at the Schlitterbahn in Kansas City? I know that ride had an accident, but something huge would be a big crowd draw.

I think it'll be years before anyone tries to even come close to making the same claims Verruckt did. No one with brand recognition today wants an article that even mentions Verruckt in the text, which will definitely happen.

I can see a smaller park doing it, just to get the huge publicity that will come from it. Definitely not Carowinds, at least to be the next one.

well, at least carolina harbor should do something record breaking, maybe not height, but something sorta insane. maybe length or speed of a certain type of slide

"Longest" would work. "Tallest" and "fastest" was claimed by Verruckt, and would - at least in my PR mind - be bad for someone to claim for some time.

Call it "Mysticeti". Thanks to Wiki, it's the family (or wherever it falls in the taxonomy) that includes blue whales.

Personally, give me a solid attraction vs trying to break a record. Some of the best coasters and attractions don't break any records.

we were just talking about carolina harbor, we decided on the world's longest waterslide called Mysticiti that is 2,500 ft long.

Carowinds is the closest theme park to me, so i gotta help make it the cedar point of the south. even though it's not really in SC, I want us south carolinians to have a premier park to go to.
