After I read about what PKI is doing with thier camground it left me wondering about our survey and the future of that land.

Does anyone have any news?

I, for one, have 3 ideas on how that area could be utilized. Of course I have no idea how much land there actualy is over there and these are very general in discriptions.

1. Design an indoor / outdoor waterpark with resort accomodations. Kind of like what others have/are doing(PKI, Cedar Point) except make it to where you can cut off the outside portion for the winter. This would do 2 things: It would allow better use of that area on a year round basis and they could remove the water park from where it is to utilize that space for more attractions, plus giving more room for a bigger water park.

2. Convert it into a company or organizational meeting area that would house ALL the picnic areas from the park. The companies could have there own parking, entrance, even bathhouses and other goodies. There again giving more room to the actuall park for attractions.

3. Move all the office, employee and maintenance buildings over there giving the park a ton of additional space for attractions.

Hmmm, too bad the park isn't like my living room furniture! I could refit the park!

The Carowinds Website still stills it, but it says closed for undetermined amount of time. I like idea #2 but it won't happen as people want to picnic in the park not outside of it. Personally, I think Carowinds should move WaterWorks to the other side of Thunder Road, connect to South Gate. Move Crossroads Picnic Shelter over there, and expand the County Fair while creating a new Carolina themed area(Carolina Jungle). They could expand the Campground where the waterworks were, and open up some land.

I don't think they are going to reopen the campground and ad some more space for the park in that area.
