^ You're also 13 . . .

An ACE award (or any award for that matter) won't save a coaster when the park is ready to get rid of it.

take the Swamp Fox at Family Kingdom in Myrtle Beach, SC.
-has the ACE landmark
-old, vintage woodie
-rough as hell in every row except the front

The park really has no plans of tearing it down, but I wouldn't miss it SUPER much if they chose to do so. if I were to have a choice of the future of this ride, i'd do one of the following-
-Retrack the ride, possibly add GCI trains
-RMC it (if I had the cash to do so)
-tear it down and put something new in its place (and probably put a memorial to the ride right next to it)

going with your reasoning, an award doesn't save the ride, but it does give a nod to it's value in coaster history.

And that's pretty much all it does, give a nod.

(this is off topic, very off topic) although, I do sorta like the swamp fox, being one of the first major coasters i've ridden. I remember my first ride and this ride actually had airtime! My recent trip to Family Kingdom made my ranking of the swamp fox go down by A LOT. The ride A. Lost it's airtime B. Nearly knocked the air out of my stomach in the back row C. Bruised my neck and arm

The only good row on that ride is the front row, and there still, it is still sort of rough.
It was so rough I even wrote an off-brand coaster parody on it!

(OK Back to the topic at hand!)

Please don't jinx this. Going in July.

I seriously doubt it, though. it's their main coaster that has plenty of historical value.
even though it sucks, it will stay for at least the next decade or so.

If they demolish it with no plans of replacing it, they'd lose a lot of popularity and it would inevitably end up with family kingdom closing.

^Not if they brought the Swamp Fox into the 21st century like the old Coney Island Thunderbolt.

I think if they just fixed the ride it'd be back in its former glory. I remember when Swamp Fox had airtime, and it was insane since the trains don't have regular lap bars.
If they retracked it or gave it new trains (Ones without lap bars still) it would be one of my favorite woodies!

These are some minor things that I’d like to see in the park, more updates than anything:

1. Woodstock Express repainted brown. I know it was repainted fairly recently (2015, I believe), but I feel brown would match the rustic aesthetic of Camp Snoopy more than its current color scheme.

2. Goldrusher’s chasses modified/new trains and new sensors/brakes. That way, it could have a lower height requirement, making it the park’s premier family coaster, and the capacity would improve. Maybe add some indoor scenes with set pieces/animatronics as a way to “plus” it.

3. Burrito Cafe exterior completely redone. Make it more of an open-air, modern design similar to the new BBQ restaurant going to Cedar Point. Also, rename it “Burrito Bar” just because of aliteration.

4. Some live performances on the plaza stage during the day. I’m thinking something along the lines of an elaborate drum show, just something to get some kinetic energy into that area of the park.

5. Update Drop Tower & surrounding area. New paint job, signage, get rid of the asphalt, and make it look less 90’s and abandoned.

For just 21?!? The line would be crazy long just to get in and get a drink with that limited amount of people allowed up there.[/quote]

21+. You knew what I mean. lol

I'd love to see all of these, but especially the Thrill Zone update. Even if they don't add a new attraction, it's painfully obvious that the area hasn't been touched since the Paramount days.

I like the goldrusher idea. Maybe with new trains and maybe add a dark ride section in that boring area at the beginning of the ride with the transfer tracks.

Back in the 80's there was a plan (don't know how far it got) to make the Goldrusher into a dark ride. Obviously, those plans didn't pan out. It is a "mine-train" after all. It should be running "through a mine". just my 2 cents.

...and please don't tear down Swamp Fox. it's one of my favorite rides. I go to MB every year and don't leave without riding it. I've gotten my 16 year-old daughter into the tradition as well.
