General Carowinds discussion

I’m gonna close my eyes for the barn sequence, if they even show that portion at all.

EDIT: Here is some test footage of the second launch (reset) on from the ride (by Statelinethrills). I’ve seen some other footage as well and the second half especially looks better paced than I thought it would be judging from the animation.

Yeah there is, Saturday someone also got shots of who I believe to have been the Mack family riding, they usually are some of the first to check out their installations. With this thing just opening in over a couple of weeks not surprising to see someone on it (maintenance, operations, special guests lol).

Kind of makes the auction for the first ride a little bit of a farce. Although yes, I do understand the need for some live testing to provide feedback and identify potential issues that water jugs can't.

Maybe actual first public riders? I'm sure people from construction and carowinds would ride before that to make sure its safe, etc.

Really people! When did people actually start believing they are the 'first' at anything? Before you get it, somebody at the factory tested it. And trust, before those auction bidders get on, Carowinds employees will have had multiple rides on it. That auction affords you the first public ride only, they conveniently left out the word 'public'. Besides, it's all about charity right, not actually the first ride?

How about "first official rides"?

I never assumed the "first ride" was "the first actual ride by something with a pulse - except for that pesky fly that got on the front row of test ride #127, but we swatted him dead before the ride stopped in the station, so he didn't technically ride the whole thing with a pulse."

I would expect there to be some day or time before "first ride" wherein construction, management, dignitaries (media, maybe even some guests from Make-A-Wish), and select employees (those trained on the ride at the least) get to ride it. If that stops you from giving $250 or so to a charity to experience it before general public and pass holders, then don't donate.

You do know that literally every park in the Cedar Fair chain has let employees and park officials ride first before the auction, right? It’s not a scam, the auction winners are among the first public riders.

Seriously, how entitled does someone have to be to think that PEOPLE WHO WORK AT THE PARK AND HELPED BUILD THE ATTRACTION are scamming people out of their money for getting to ride it first?

You realize Carowinds isn’t pocketing any of the money made in the auction right? It’s pretty much expected that the first true riders are park officials / other workers who helped make the ride possible.

I’ve still got my bid in the ring for the auction and I couldn’t care any less that if I win, I won’t truly be one of the first riders. I’m bidding for the media day experience and so I don’t have to worry about swarms of crowds that I’ll face going on passbolder night and/or opening day.

Edit: Tarheel beat me to the point

But it isnt even the first public ride, it's happening at a special non-public event. The first public ride would be buying the first place in line at passholder preview night, and/or opening day. Which I kind of think is something they should do as well.

What you're actually buying in this auction is an invitation to a private event. And at this event, you will be the first of the attendees to get a ride. Admittedly, that's virtually impossible to convey with any conciseness. And as I said, I know they need some live testing since water jugs can only do so much. But the optics of promoting the "first ride" at the same time there are pictures of people riding it, arent all that great.

I kind of expected the first true rider to be some low-level maintenance guy wearing that proverbial red shirt. Just in case something went wrong :silent: .
