General Carowinds discussion

I didn’t ride tonight just came for pics lol, maybe again sometime this weekend. The queue was slammed full filling the entire queue, the temp set cow pens, and line extending out past Mountain Gliders. Seems at least 2/2.5 of waiting from the back of the line. I don’t blame them for stopping more from entering the queue at 9 cause they’ll definitely be there past 10 getting everyone on. Looked like a really great turnout.

Got back from the park about an hour ago, and here is my review:

Copperhead Strike is extremely fun. It’s not a balls-to-the-wall intense experience like Maverick, but honestly, I would liken it to an adult version of Firechaser Express. The way it traverses elements feels euro-fighter-y, in that it has some kick to it, but not to the point where it’s overbearing.

Now I only got one ride at night in the 7th row, right side, at 9:20 PM, so bear with me:

-The Jojo roll is a lot snappier than it appears, while still having enough hangtime to keep you in suspense.

-The barn is really well themed, but I couldn’t really see or hear anything due to where I was positioned. Still, it’s an amazing second impression for the ride.

-The first launch feels like it’s split in two segments. It feels like a gentle acceleration when you leave the barn, but when you hit the slight incline, it really picks up. I would liken the first launch to Verbolten’s. I think CS’s might be the “weaker” of the two, but it still feels strong enough to feel like a real launch.

-The first loop provides some pretty good hangtime

-This is probably gonna be the most controversial part of my review, but while the first airtime hill is good, it feels like it’s really strong floater a la Fury’s last two hills, more than Intamin-style ejector. But I sat in the back row, so I’m sure it’s stronger towards the front.

-The corkscrew and succeeding helices are pretty forceful, but again, I would still liken the forces more to a eurofighter. There’s not a lot of laterals, but it still pins you to your seat and you feel the positive G’s.

-The hill leading into the second launch was a pleasant surprise. Again, not full on ejector, but it’s still really good.

-The second launch, while not providing as much airtime as I hoped, is still incredibly fun and the acceleration is still noticeable, albeit not as strong as the first launch.

-THE TOPHAT. Oh my god, this thing is ridiculous! The hangtime is amazing here, and so often on coasters, you move through inversions to fast to take them in. Not here. Here, you hang for what feels like a short eternity, full cognizant of the fact that you are upside down 82 feet above the ground, and it’s emphasized even more with the lapbar restraints.

-I can’t really remember the short turn or loop following the tophat, as it was kind of a blur.

-The turn through the first loop is pretty fun, but the real highlight of the ride is the following S-turn that goes under the first airtime hill. It’s extremely forceful and whippy, and probably the most intense part of the ride.

-The twister section at the end is really fun.

-The airtime hill into the brake run is probably the strongest moment, and it’s really good, but again, from the backseat, it doesn’t really feel like full-on-ejector. Again, I will have to ride closer to the front next time.

Overall, it’s a really enjoyable coaster. I’d probably put it above Intimidator, but for me, Afterburn just slightly edges it out as my second favorite ride at the park. However, Copperhead Strike is far more rerideable than Afterburn, so while it may not edge it out, I can see myself marathoning this more than Afterburn on an empty day.

I’m just incredibly happy that Carowinds now has four world-class coasters in this, Intimidator, Afterburn, and Fury, with each offering different ride experiences. 2019 is going to be the best season yet, and I can’t wait to ride Copperhead Strike a million more times once the lines have died down. :D

This was the line around 6:30.

I rode CS last night on the 7th row and I was extremely impressed. Carowinds has an extremely unique ride on its hands. I am in total agreement with everything that has been commented in the last few posts so I am not going to repeat what has already been said.

On that note, the theming in the queue line has not really been mentioned yet and HOLY CRAP IF YOU LOOK AROUND THERE IS SO MUCH STUFF TO TAKE IN! There were a few things that I loved. First, I thought that it was very clever to use the symbol of flowers to show what was Granny's and what wasn't. The front porch displayed this very well as everything was themed to look beaten and broken down (which looked very convincing) but there were these vibrantly colored flowers that were riddled throughout the scene. As well, flowers were painted on the bath curtain and the front door to stress the idea that that house was GRANNY'S. The thing that blew me most away with the theming was the inclusion of the outhouses. At first sight, I was very confused on why there were three outhouses in a row. Is that really necessary? I saw what they stood for, though, and got super stoked. I saw the flowers on the middle outhouse and knew that that outhouse was Granny's. That left a tall and skinny outhouse on the left and a short and fat (the wood is bent outwards to give it a "rounded" look) outhouse on the right. The tall outhouse had car parts around it and the shorter one had a bag of fertilizer behind it. I remembered to the beginning of the queue where there was the silhouette of a short, fat guy and a tall, skinny guy and realized that the outhouses are symbols for Granny's sons. All in all, 3 outhouses were able to tell a story that there are 3 characters: Granny and her two sons. Granny has a fan behind her outhouse to get out fumes (ie Moonshine or just the aftermath of Taco Tuesday). One of her sons is a mechanic who mods his cars in order to smuggle the moonshine and the other son is the one who grows the corn for the moonshine. WHO KNEW OUTHOUSES COULD BE SO IMPORTANT TO TELLING A STORY? On top of this, Carowinds put whole cars and tractors in the queue line for crying out loud which is just uncalled for but I am so happy that they put them there. Round of applause to the person who came up with all of these small details that the large majority of people will look over. All of these details added to the overall experience and made Copperhead Strike more unique and memorable. I can't wait to go back to Carowinds and see what else I missed but I hope that this is the start of a new era for Carowinds.

On another note, did anyone else feel that the ride, mostly in the station, felt a little unfinished? I saw some hanging wires in the line that were not hooked up, there wasn't any music playing in the background in the queue, and the station did not have the announcer recording that all other Carowinds rides have.

PS to anybody at Carowinds, I would love it if you make a "Rise n' Shine" T-shirt. I would totally buy because that logo is really cool

Thanks for explaining the whole story! I was too awestruck on Thursday by the ride itself to really put together the story that all the props in the queue were telling. The folks at Weber Group are absolutely incredible and I hope to see Cedar Fair working with them on future projects.

As for your comments on the station, I’m sure we’ll see all those loose ends patched up within the coming weeks.

So I ate there last night. On the plan you can either get the chicken, beef or sausage all which are rotisserie and a side of greens, Mac n cheese or potatoes which comes with fried bread. Or you can get the specialty pizza with a breadstick.

The food was amazing. You get a half of chicken. I was definitely expecting that. I gambled and went with the greens and to my shocking amazement they were excellent, seasoned immensely. I bit on the juicy side for me with out rice or something to sop it up but still blew my expectations out the water. Fried bred was great. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The chicken was good could use a bit more season for me but it was still good. You can get the Copperhead sauce from the counter upfront while ordering or you can opt for the tobasco variety sauce in the seating area. You can get the original, smoke, or jalapeño flavor.

Copperhead Strike has gone down three times so far today. People keep leaning on and moving the safety gates, and stepping on a pad near the exit gate, which shuts the ride down according to the employee out here standing in front of the entrance.

This is probably going to be a minority opinion in the enthusiast community, but I liked Copperhead Strike much, much more than Maverick (which I like but not to the extent that many do).

The ride is absolutely brilliant. It fits what I like about coasters perfectly so it’s already an instant favorite after a few rides. I liked it a lot better than Icon but not as much as Helix (which is no surprise as Helix is much larger and one of the best rides in the world). It got better with each ride, especially when I got to ride in the last car. The elements flow together so wonderfully. Fantastic pacing. I figured I would enjoy the ride but it far exceeded my expectations. Major kudos to the park on a superb addition.

The only downsides this weekend were that one, the “rotisserie pizza” (two words that don’t belong together which should have been a warning sign) may be the worst thing I’ve ever eaten at an amusement park. Two, the Copperhead Strike capacity was pretty brutal when you combine the 16 passenger trains with the existence of Fast Pass. My guess is the regular line was getting around 400 people per hour through.

Oh, and also, the flyers were neutered.
