I don't think the park has to worry about that for a while. They can fit a coaster in the Dinosaur's Alive plot if they wanted to, as well as the RRR plot (assuming the ride doesn't return). There is also room elsewhere they can use. But that's two right there.

honestly does it really matter if they have a certain number of coasters? I’m fine with a park having less then 15 if that means we are getting quality rides , rather have 1 great coaster then 3 clones.

I’m not sure if all of y’all know how long it takes to plans roller coaster. Copperhead was being planned in at least early 2017, maybe 2016. And Carowinds actually doesn’t have ALOT of land because last year there was an online article and I remember Steve Jackson or somebody from Carowinds saying, we don’t really have much room or something like that and all they keep doing is cutting away at the parking lot. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

If Dino Alive and RRR were still around, I'd agree. But those are two sizeable plots of land that can be used.

I do agree on the coaster time. I can't imagine Carowinds has been planning a second coaster so soon after CS. If anything, they're talking to someone about a new one now.

Carowinds has plenty of room, just not as much inside the park (discounting Dinosaurs Alive and RRR, where's there's a combined 8 acres of potential space). If they re-shift the parking lot, they can expand the park another 25-30 acres. But I think they'll continue to remove older rides before they reach that point.

If that's true you realize that's outdated... right? That was before RRR closed (I am assuming it's not returning for the sake of this), and before word came around of this being Dinos last year. I see the park having at least 3 sizable areas for a new roller coaster without having to remove anything.

Copperhead Strike started the preliminary planning and design right after things finished up with Carolina Harbor as far as I can recall.

Whenever I see someone say a park doesn't have much room, i'm reminded of this . . .

There is plenty of room in the park especially if you consider that coasters don't HAVE to sit on a dedicated plot of land. They CAN, and frequently do in other parks, cross each other.

I would actually prefer that from a visual perspective. It's great to have a few coasters that wrap themselves in a bow to stay on the same acre of land but it would also be great to have a coaster or two that stretched it's legs and came through other areas of the park. One place that Carowinds COULD do something like that would be from Dino's Area over into Crossroads and back. Or, if you're looking to nix Nighthawk or Vortex (or both), go over into RRR area. No reason to build a wall around every coaster. Let's have more interaction with other rides not to mention people. Love how Busch Gardens in Tampa has a lot of it's coasters interact with the people via water splashes, bridges, tunnels, etc. etc.

Stuff like this is cool...

I think they have room for two more coasters without cutting into the parking lot- that is without removing anything else. While they could use the parking lot, I don't think that would be their first plot to build a new ride/coaster/themed area.

I just remember back in an interview with somebody representing Carowinds that they said, we have little room left without having to expand into the parking lot. Honestly, I don't think they're going to expand out into the parking lot anytime soon. Intimidator kind of just blocks it off in my opinion.

^ No reason why they can't make paths through Intimidator or even make a ride that interacted with Intimidator. Rebel Yell blocked off a large area at Kings Dominion too... what did they do when they wanted to expand their water park?? They just put the path under the coaster. One thing I don't like about that at Kings Dominion is the visual disconnect between the two areas on each side of Rebel Yell. If they did that at Carowinds, I don't think we'd have that issue because its near the front of the park and Intimidator doesn't visually impair the view.

I think it will be a LONG time before it's needed but they could do something like this pretty easily (as long as they got rid of the parking lot and didn't just put rides on top of it. Loved the way they did with Intimidator.)

All of those gray lines could be paths into that area.

If anybody is going to the park tomorrow for the Coaster Crew event, make sure you say hi. Can't wait for the behind the scenes tour of Copperhead Strike!

Not only that, but there's a fair amount of grass between the entrance road and the parking lot. If they need to take out part of the lot for a bigger expansion AND they need more parking, they can expand the lot toward the road, too.

I’m here at the park, not for the coaster crew event but I’m the black kid in the Spider Man hoodie in case anyone was wondering.
