General Carowinds discussion

<span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>Did anyone move here to charlotte from up north??</span> Preferrably from Massachusetts? Because I used to live in Agawam, and in Agawam, they had Six Flags New England. I just moved to Charlotte In July, and I have to say, I really miss SF New England a lot. But Carowinds is kinda cool.

If you have been to Six Flags New England, tell what you think of the park.

There are a lot of people in this area who moved down from up north, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case for a couple people on this board. I went to Six Flags New England this summer, and really enjoyed it. I'll try the best I can to compare it to Carowinds.

Six Flags New England:
-Superman is way better than anything at Carowinds
-Waterpark is much better than Waterworks at Carowinds
-Riverside Cyclone is great
-Houdini's Great Escape :)

Carowinds:
-Better overall collection of coasters
-Top Gun is way better than anything at SFNE with the exception of Superman
-More shade, better looking overall
-Drop Zone is better than SFNE's combo tower
-Flying scooters :)

You really think the drop zone is better?? lol.... I just think that scream (formerly called hellevator) is reallllly scary because it is really tall. And the drop zone doesn't shoot up. Hhmmm........ on another note, drop zone never has a line. But... I always skip ppl in line of the scream. So I guess both are ok.

And Carowinds NEEDS a lot of the kind of rides that Six Flags New England has.
Like The:
<a href='http://sfne.com/index.php?cat=rides&ride=chaos' target='_blank'>Chaos</a>
<a href='http://sfne.com/index.php?cat=rides&ride=nw' target='_blank'>Nightwing</a>(Incredible! The first of its kind ever!)
<a href='http://sfne.com/index.php?cat=rides&ride=tomahawk' target='_blank'>Tomahawk</a>(A MUST!)
<a href='http://sfne.com/index.php?cat=rides&ride=twister' target='_blank'>Twister</a>(Hurts your ball sack.)
<a href='http://sfne.com/index.php?cat=rides&ride=tw' target='_blank'>Timewarp</a>
<a href='http://sfne.com/index.php?cat=rides&ride=dt' target='_blank'>Double Trouble</a>(Another ride that hurts your ball sack.)
<a href='http://sfne.com/index.php?cat=rides&ride=kontiki' target='_blank'>Kontinki</a>(Stopped making it go backward's in '00.)
<a href='http://sfne.com/index.php?cat=rides&ride=buzzsaw' target='_blank'>Buzzsaw</a>(Don't put your hands up, or they will stop the ride.)

And Carowinds NEEDS these kind of roller coasters that Six Flags New England has.
Like The:
<a href='http://sfne.com/index.php?cat=rides&ride=sros' target='_blank'>Superman Ride Of Steel</a>(Hyper coaster; The #1 coaster in the world!)
<a href='http://sfne.com/index.php?cat=rides&ride=bdk' target='_blank'>Batman The Dark Knight</a>(Floorless Coaster)
<a href='http://sfne.com/index.php?cat=rides&ride=fb' target='_blank'>Flashback</a>(Reverse Incline Launch)

With All Of The Above Stated, I Would Really Feel At Home. :D
And if you think about it, CAROWINDS WOULD RULE!!!

^ Um.. you can keep the Boomerang and Floorless.. I'll take that hyper in a second though! I also agree 100% that the park needs more flats.. been saying that for years.

Anyway I really really enjoyed my visit to SFNE.. it may very well be my favorite Six Flags park.. of course it may have had something to do with the park showing us VIP hospitality and me being with 12 of my friends..

We have something like Buzzsaw in Rocket Power: Airtime.. same motion, just a different company.

I hope you enjoy your stay in Charlotte, and hopefully the many trips at Carowinds to come!

PS - Jonathan.. you forgot about the teacups!

First of all, welcome to Charlotte Justin. We're not all southern rednecks down here in case you've been programmed to believe that. :D

I absolutely love SFNE. My first trip was in 1994 when it was just called Riverside Park. The Cyclone's first drop blew me away then although it has been somewhat tamed since then. I also loved the classic Thunderbolt. What a nice surprise that was.

When I went back in 2001, I was surprised at the changes Six Flags made. They did a wonderful job. We went on a Friday afternoon (did Lake Compounce that morning until 3pm). We were expecting very large crowds but the park was fairly dead. We ended up getting 25+ rides on what I still call "the best steel coaster on the planet"......SRoS.

We stayed until closing and my last ride of the night on the way out was Scream. It's a double-shot or what some call shot & drop. You are not only shot up at a high rate of speed but then you are shot downward as well. IMO, this puts Drop Zone to shame.

Riverside, uhh, I mean SFNE is a beautiful park and beautifully situated along the river's edge. Carowinds doesn't have the history that SFNE does but it's still a great park. And we're all still hoping for that Intamin hyper before we die!

Justin...Welcome!!!

Hope the southern summers aren't too hard on ya ;)

I agree with you that Carowinds needs more flats. I agree 100%

And trust me, if we could get a hyper in here I'm be peeing in my pants, ok not really. But I love hypers after riding some of the best (Apollo's Chariot, Magnum, MForce, Superman (SFA))

I wish there was one closer than a 6 hour drive. I HEART Hypers.

I've never gotten to SFNE, not for lack of wanting to.

But I've been on Superman's cousin in DC. It's similar, but not as long as it's big brother up in SFNE. I loved it. Lot's of fun.

Well I was born in chicago and my family is from there.

Anyways, I have also ridden SFNE's superman's cousin, though at SFDL. Great ride, but I doubt it is near as good as SFNE's superman.

Never been to SFNE btw.

I have only found the "southern hospitality" on these forums, and only in Pineville (Pineville is REEAALLY nice, clean, and neat.) But I only live up by Albemarle Rd. :(

Thanks for making me feel welcomed! (Everyone at school are asses and they make fun of my Boston accent.)

^Don't listen to them, Boston accents are awsome. :)

The summers up north can be worse than Florida's. (i was up in P.A. one summer, it got up to 101 degrees!!)

Anyway, my family is from Pennsylvania, but sadly I've never gotten the oppurtunity to go to any of the parks up there.

Well you've got to realize that the South isn't full of southerners anymore ;) lol

It's true though. I was born and raised in Charlotte and 20 years ago, we might have had like 4 or 5 different ethnicities around.

Now we have as many as the rest of the country.

Back then your choices in restaurants were, American, American deep fried, maybe a Chinese restaurant and some more deep friend southern food.

Now you can find all kind of stuff around Charlotte.

I also find that if you drive just a short ways out of Charlotte like to Shelby or East to Albemarle, you still find a lot of Southern hospitality and a lot of "Honey, sweety would you like fries with that?". lol

And finally, I'm about 5 minutes from 485 and Albemarle Rd, so I'm not too far from you.

And one final note, Southerners do NOT know how to drive in Snow or Ice, so just go ahead and laugh at us now. I personally don't act like an idiot, but a lot of Charlotteans do in the snow.

Plus we get it so infrequently that we don't have the city equipment to be able to handle a foot like last year.

Anyway, ramblings over... Hope you enjoy living here. I tell people Charlotte is a lot like a good mystery novel.

You have to do some digging to find out about the city, but it's worth it. B) :D

^LOL! I agree with everything you just said.

I live up in the mountains, and have all my life. These days we have more people from out of state than we do locals. That means a lot of good development, but but it also means the area is starting to become too commercial.

The triad area is growing too, the Dell plant is being built in Winston, and they are still working on I-485 and the bypass.
