General Carowinds discussion

I understand that Nighthawk isn’t the most comfortable ride in the park but it really isn’t HORRIBLE it just is bad in a few parts (corkscrews mainly)
I don’t think Carowinds is going to plan on removing Nighthawk soon considering it was the 5th most popular ride at the park last year. I haven’t noticed any major maintenance issues with it either.
My opinion on Vortex:
Scrap it and either relocate it to another CF park or sell it to an out of chain park.
It’s too short of a ride and even though CGA converted theirs and it’s similar to ours it doesn’t mean we will get ours converted too. They lost that little every other year plan where they converted one standup in the chain. Just scrap it and make Carousel Park something nice rather than when they just put the new carousel shack in and added 3 carousel park signs. Nothing else changed. They just added in the old planet snoopy benches which look weird in the area.

If they're waiting for a part to be delivered, there'd be nothing to actively work on so no one would be hanging out there.

Last Friday, I cant recall if I saw it running at all earlier in the day, but at one point maintenance was working on it and it remained closed after that.

I'll admit that it's the first flyer I rode of that style, though I've ridden the ones that lift you into the flying position.

It was the worst experience I've had on a ride. Going up the lift hill, the vibrations were so strong that I couldn't keep my head on the train. Once we flipped, the vest restraint instantly felt too loose for me. There was nowhere for me to hold to help stabilize myself. There was very little way for me to adjust my head so I could see forward, which I prefer to do on a ride. And the different conversions to being back on our backs was disorienting.

I completely understand that my disliking it doesn't have to carry over to other people's opinions. But I think the only thing it has going for it is that it looks cool while watching it. Some say the exact same thing about Vortex. If you were to take any (or both) out and put in something else that looks cool to watch, you're not going to lose many fans.

I get what you're trying to say but you do realize what you've actually said here? It wont happen in 2023, but could happen in any other moment in time.

Personally, I would throw a party if Vortex was replaced. Now for those head-bangers who enjoy being uncomfortable while making your ears bleed...

I actually didn't get a terrible ride on Vortex on Saturday. If you brace for the next element by pressing your head to the side of the restraint, it won't be super rough. I can't say the same thing about the plastic piece between your legs, though.

If only Vortex were a little longer and didn't have such a boring layout, then it would make more sense to convert it. I'd throw 2 parties if they axed it. I'd prefer Nighthawk any day over Vortex. In my fantasy world they would get rid of both of them and build an RMC, Mystic Timbers, or something else cool. But who knows what they have planned!

I think a dive could go in that plot if the DA or RRR plot is already taken.

I'm not asking for something like Valravn or Yukon striker, just something short and sweet like Baron 1898 or Oblivion: the black hole would be nice.
However, I am pretty sure we'll get the next "tallest fastest longest dive coaster with the most inversions"

they broke the records once. they did it again. I think Cedar Fair will put more of these in especially since they're getting a lot more popular in the states.

I dont see a dive coaster going in RRR area. Its going to be a family oriented area no matter which way you look at it.

I have 2 thoughts on Rip Roarin Rapids area.

1. A overhaul of the ride to match knotts berry farm but a Carolina theme.
2. A forbidden frontier area like Cedar Point.

I dont see a major coaster next for us until at least 4 years. Unless they remove a coaster which I highly doubt.

Just about every ride can break some record or be first in something, but it doesn't always mean anything ("first double launch coaster in the Carolinas", for example). It's what gets people excited.

So, yes, any new ride will break something or be the first to do something. Obviously, "tallest in the world" or any other metric that applies to the U.S. or the world is a valid record.

If Carowinds announced a dive coaster, it would be another huge hit with the public with the vertical drop and the 200+ foot climb. Also, not many people in the area have seen a dive coaster, considering that the closest one is Griffon at BGW or Sheikra at BGT. Carowinds would be a perfect spot to put one because the other two are at least a 6 hour drive away.

Popular based on what? It is only 3, in the states (and one coming next year), B&M Dive coasters and that's over a span of 15 years. I don't think they really consider that popular or more popular. Parks don't care about records as much as we would like to think they do. Sure, they use superlatives to market the ride but at the end of the day they aren't running to a designer and saying I need the -est coaster in the world.
