General Carowinds discussion

Disclaimer: I have no inside information for the 2020 project, but with speculation that Crossroads might be receiving a makeover and that a couple of rides will be removed next year, I'm guessing this could be the plot of land allotted for the 2020 addition or additions:

This is operating under the assumption that next year's addition is an Antique Autos attraction similar to the one that opened at Kings Island. This path requires some of the parking lot to be removed, but it doesn't eat into any storage space and the maintenance road can be built around it. So IMO, it makes the most logical sense.

There is no spots that are both better for a car ride that are already vacant or soon to be vacant depending on what you believe....

I heard RIP to Rapids, electrical is being removed.

And Carowinds has already said that the Dino’s are going extinct.

Rapids actually still has all electrical there...the fans and the funtvs were on when I was on the Skytower at dusk a few days ago. As far as tar heels prediction, I think it’s probably gonna happen.

With the metal roof being put back on most of the queue and the ride still closed, it is my assumption that the queue will be used for SCarowinds.

Electrical being removed doesn’t mean much really except the ride isn’t returning this season.

Nothing major has been removed from Rapids as of last week that I could see from Skytower.

That being said, just because we can’t see wires being pulled out of the conduits doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened. I have removed and rewired things before leaving no trace...

I don't think the fans and tv's run on the same electrical set up as the actual rapids . . .

I am leaning towards antique cars in Crossroads, either where YoYo is, and have the track go next to PvsZ building. Or where Thunder Roads old station was.

Then, I think we will also see a new water slide complex added as well.

Carolina Harbor needs more capacity.

Please let it be a mat racer. I know that literally nothing is confirmed and there may not even be a water park addition, but if there is, that would add much needed capacity and round Carolina Harbor’s collection nicely.

We already complain about the park closing some Carolina Harbor attractions due to staffing issues but you all want more slides to be closed due to staffing issues?

Well, they could just keep closing slides which forces longer lines on the ones open and eventually people will start looking for other options and other water parks. There are about a dozen or so water parks of some type within about 25 miles of Carowinds.

Which waterparks are those? Off the top of my head, the only other actual waterpark in the Charlotte area is Great Wolf Lodge, and last time I checked it is for the use of resort guests only. Wet N Wild in Greensboro is more like 100 miles away, and any of the smaller parks on the coast are even further than that.

Granted, a few of the YMCAs in town have a couple waterslides and maybe a kiddie play area, but I don't really think you can call those water parks in the same sense as Carolina Harbor, on top of the fact that a membership can be significantly more expensive than a season pass.

There is Ray's Splash Planet which is a *very* small indoor waterpark operated by Mecklenburg County, but it really isn't any more elaborate than anything at one of the YMCAs with outdoor facilities.

Anyone can purchase a Day Pass to the GWL in Concord. There are some locations where you do have to stay there however.

$70 per person.....in September
I can get Carowinds tickets for $42 or Wet n Wild for $30.
That’s almost a ticket to both parks for the price of GWL.

Update: $95 for this Saturday.

I hope I am doing something wrong and that includes a room too! :sarcasm:
