I've got another long-winded concept, so hold on tight! This is my idea for the renovation of Thrill Zone.

I'd like to start with a mini-rant in saying that Thrill Zone is IMO the worst section of the park visually. I know the back section of Crossroads/old County Fair is also outdated, but it still has more in the way of trees and scenery to compensate for it. Thrill Zone, more than any other section of the park, feels like a relic from the Paramount era with no real personality. I don't mean to discredit the park landscapers/architects who have worked on maintaining it, because they do a fantastic job of cleaning the park. But at a base level, this section is an eclectic mix of 50's and 90's theming, not being able to be identified as either. And that's a shame when it's home to one of the best rollercoasters on the planet.

So with that out of the way, I'd like to introduce the Energy Expo! A showcase of the technologies that will power the future of the Carolinas:

It's somewhat of a Tomorrowland futuristic-style land, but instead of feeling as if it takes place in the future, it's more of a tech-expo, showing preliminary versions of things we could see in the future. There's also a bit of science fiction thrown in there, so it isn't limited by the constraints of reality. Now onto the attractions:

1. Spinergy- This is an indoor, launched spinning coaster built by Mack. The theme is that you're taking a tour of a nuclear facility, when all of a sudden, the building experiences a power surge. There's a blackout. Your cars begin to glow and spin, and out of nowhere, they launch into the darkness, careening around the facility. Random pockets of "radiation" illuminate your journey, but otherwise, the experience is in the dark.

Space Fantasy at Universal Studios Japan

For the ride itself, the loading area would be a dual-loading system, with each train traveling onto a switchtrack after leaving the station. It would launch into a showbuilding, similar to Flight of Fear. Also similar to FoF, there would be a MCBR in the middle of the course to allow for more trains. This would fill a gap in the park's lineup, as there is not an indoor coaster, and more indoor attractions are critical in the brutal summer heat that the Carolinas experience.

2. FusionFall- The showbuilding for Spinergy is combined with a new building housing the queue around Drop Tower. It's themed to a nuclear fusion reactor, where riders board at the "core", rise up through a Smokestack (~60 ft on the tower), and fall back through once the "fusion" is achieved. The stack would emit mist similar to the tunnel on Afterburn, and aesthetically, it would look like this:

3. Hurler- I couldn't really think of how a coaster like Hurler would fit into a futuristic section until now. I think the ride's wooden aesthetic lends itself well to an attraction based on biofuel. So theming it to something around ethanol or some other plant-based source of energy could work.

4. Rollercoaster Restaurant- I think this fits in with the tech-expo area just since there's only 8 of them around the world, and it has a unique and unorthodox way of delivering food. It would be an attraction in and of itself, and it would be totally unique to North America. It's also a full-service restaurant which is something the park lacks.

5. Generotor- A portmanteau of 'Generator' and 'Rotor', Screamweaver would receive a new name and lighting package, along with a new silver and blue paint job. The lighting package would really stand out at night, as the spinning adds to the spectacle.

Other- The elephant in the room here is Fury, but it really doesn't need a retheme. It's new, and the ride already has a futuristic look to it. The concept is really designed around Fury moreso than trying to make it fit in.

The overall design of the land would be similar to Tomorrowland in Shanghai:

Overall, I think this would take Thrill Zone from being the worst section in the park to the best, as it would have the most theming and highest quality of attractions than any other section in the park. Right now, Fury's the only real draw back there. But this overhaul and these new attractions would make it a spot to spend hours in, like Blue Ridge Junction and County Fair.

I wouldn’t actually do a lot to change Thrill Zone. I’d definitely change the name, I’d probably name it after a fictional town or a portmanteau of two small town names, one from NC, the other from SC. I’d re-paint the lines to make it look like a road.

I’d refurbish the Hurler station to make it look more in line with Twisted Timbers, which looks great. And I’d have GCI come in and totally retrack it with new MIlF trains.

I’d put a new light package on Hurler and Scream Weaver.

I’d put an orbiter or some spinning flat ride in place of the claw games stall going into the area under Cyclone, which I would include in the new area and spruce it up a bit.

Then I’d ad some thrill ride to the land between Drop Tower, which id rename, and the park boundary.

The overall theme would be small town Carolinas with a mix of new and old looking buildings. I’d put some kind of classic looking painted billboard on the side of the theater too.

I could see them doing to Thrillzone what Kennywood did with the area around Steel Curtain. Make it a Carolina sports team area since fury already has a pseudo hornets theme.

Personally. I’d like to see Intimidator rethemed either to the Panthers or Thunder Road. For a Panthers theme it could be repainted with black track and blue supports and vice versa. Named Panther or something similar I’m not creative. For a Thunder Road retheme, obviously it would be renamed Thunder Road and maybe painted red and blue.

I definitely like the Team area idea, get David Tepper on board, we'll rename drop tower, Tepper Tower or just build a new ride called Tepper Tantrum!

That's going too far lol . . .

I'm thinking more of a focus on the 3 professional (I think it's just 3) teams. I think scream weaver would be the obvious choice to get a Carolina Hurricanes make over. Make hurler "The Pounder" and make drop tower a sports tower featuring team flags from the major collegiate teams in the carolinas. Move the 3 point challenge, have one of those football throwing games as well in the area. Gut jukebox and make it a proper sports bar with game day food and snacks. Have a "pep rally" style show of sorts with cheer leaders and mascots (if allowed). Man, I can go on and on . . .

Eh, I don’t know. I just feel like Cedar Fair could do way better seeing what they’ve done with other areas of the park, and I feel that Fury, being a signature attraction, deserves a land that compliments its aesthetic rather than being vaguely related to it (e.g. sports or insert Carolinas reference <here>).

I do want that Hurler GCI renovation though at some point.

TBH I really enjoy Hurler and would rather just have the trim brakes removed and the retracking complete and get a Gold Rusher GCI/RMC and a longer track if possible.

Except for adding the water pond back under the second helix and enclosing the first helix....,
Don’t change Goldrusher.

Should have RMC’ed Thunder Road and combined the tracks into one...
Could have shown Beast what the world’s longest (wooden) roller coaster should do!

So I have an idea for a replacement for Boo Blasters, and this is something that could be done in an "off-year". I think the haunted house type-attraction is absolutely something that should be kept, but I think Carowinds needs something that has higher capacity and feels more immersive than Boo Blasters.

So my suggestion is to turn it into a haunted walkthrough attraction, in the vein of the Sleeping Beauty's Castle walkthrough at Disneyland, but with a twist: it's completely interactive. In the same way that Forbidden Frontier at Cedar Point is a "choose your own adventure" style attraction, this haunted house attraction at Carowinds would have several interactive elements, such as props that cause projection-mapped ghosts to fly around the room, props that move on their own as if being moved by ghosts, mirrors with special effects, etc. There could also be a storyline that changes throughout the season, revealing the mystery of the mansion and why it has fallen into its dilapidated state. The interactivity and changing environments give guests an incentive to return to the attraction all season long.

Now the showbuilding itself isn't very large, so my suggestion to expand it would be to expand the top floor, and build a basement where the current Boo Blaster queue is that leads up to the first floor. This way, there's plenty of space for varied environments and for guests to explore.

I don't know how that would be more capacity as people walk at a varied pace especially including interactive elements.

I had more of a semi-walkthrough in mind that isn’t necessarily a linear path, but closer to an exhibit-type attraction where you can walk freely between rooms. If capacity becomes an issue, they can set up a timed-buzzer sort of thing that limits your time in and out of the house.
