Perhaps...

It's a temporary solution for an issue that has been bugging me for a long time, and in the future there will be a more permanent solution. I think a lot of people here will like it...

Does not having a post count detrack from the board? Will it make people post less since they can not see the post count? Does it really matter if you or me can not see your post count? After all what is a post count?

Jon took this away almost a week or so ago if my memory serves me right. Just enjoy the board without the post count.

I enjoy these board more than mine own(minus the SFOG Online part) because the commnity is bigger and more active.

Well, maybe the removal of the post count will cut down on many of the useless one sentence posts that are all to common on this board. Sometimes I think that's all some of the posters are after here, is a high post count. I never even looked at mine. Had no clue what it was.

I agree with ya Swampie. So many of the posts. like you said, seem pointless. My favourite is when there's a role call for something and somebody posts: "I wish I could go." That just kills me. Is a post like that really necessary?

Its like the crack I made about "its all about quality, not quantity." (Which I see is referenced to in a poster's sig on here.) I come on here and see posts in nearly every thread by the same poster. Usually, there's nothing significant said in them at all! To me, that is just filling up the post count. There's no "quality" in them. Its all just mindless fluff and really has no business being posted. There's usually no contribution to the thread in them.

It reminds me of certain posters over Troll Network. I've seen people post stuff in threads that usually has no relevance about the topics just to make the count go higher. I remember something like "An impulse would be nice in the park." That was all. Tell us why it would be a good fit, etc. Or "I plan on going this year."

I don't mind the occasional funny/off topic post. We're all not perfect posters and never will be. I come on here wanting to discuss the park, have some fun, and maybe even learn something about the park and its history.

Max I have to agree with you……..My Question to those who track how many posts they have…..What Satisfaction do you get for posting the most?

I wonder the same thing Fluffy. But yes, that was my reasoning behind removing post counts, and I was talking to Jay the other day about an idea I will be implementing in the future that should help even more to cut down on pointless posts. To quote from the guidelines at another board I visit:

"Before you post something, think to yourself, "would the majority of the users want to read this?". If the answer is "no", then don't post it."

And, then of course there's

"Do not **** with the moderators"

Okay, just kidding about that last one. :P

This will make me post more actually; now I won't be picked on for having a high post count.

One thing that makes the posts on TN especially pointless is that you have to have a thousand of 'em to have a custom pic. for your avatar. Thankfully, that is avoided on these forums because you can chose your avatar as soon as you join.

Also John, you can still see how many posts people have on the member list, so I don't really see much functionality to your changes, but they do make a point.

Jon I am not sure if it is possible to add this on or not but heres an Idea.......

I'll be honest Spelling and Grammer were my worst subject. It might be the same for other people. Thank God for Microsoft Word. I find myself using that when I post. I type on there make all corrections then I copy and Paste here. Is it possible to have spell Check on here?

BTW I did not use Word on this one.
