I generally like your common sense perspective. But what could the park possibly have done for these people? Reversed course and stayed open? Gone back in time and warned them on Friday to cancel their outing? It's not as simple as "just come back next weekend", after doing who knows what to make today's plans. Especially when there's now precedent for the same thing to potentially happen all over again next weekend, too. This is definitely not the way to sell your new extended season.

It seems you're unaware of the power the higher ups can have and their decision making reach. One time, I had an issue. I went to guest services and talked about it. Not only did I get refunded, I also got a complimentary version of what the issue was. It's not about going back in time and other asinine things you mention. It's about going above and beyond.

They deleted that thread, too. Last time I checked in there were over 200 posts, nearly all of them was someone pissed off or Jarvis adding a ton of insult to that injury.

Part of me really sympathized with them. I can imagine how I would feel driving long distances to be met with that outcome . . . however, I would not have ran to their fb page to bash them or make a "woe is me" lost. Parks are really accommodating when it comes to things like that. I guess I can say that as being someone on the receiving end of all those accommodations and not just from cedar fair parks. I know the park is more forgiving and more willing to work with someone who comes to them in a respectful way vs someone coming to them in an angry, entitled fashion.

But what would you envision "above and beyond" looking like? Because for a large group that chartered a bus to drop over $1,000 on a day outing isnt something that can be salvaged with a "come back next week" and a voucher for some pizza. Or a family that stayed at a hotel for the weekend, now for no reason. Or even just a season passholder who's kids were excited for the one weekend this fall that they could make it to see the Peanuts celebration - and actually get to the park before having the door slammed in their faces. I cant come up with anything that comes close to resolving the issue, beside those "asinine" things mentioned.

Sure, for people like you, who casually swing by and deal with whatever you find, it is no big deal. But if that's the only people they were planning to cater to with the extended season, they never should've planned to be open in November in the first place.

If you're asking me what "I" thinks is above and beyond it would be to host the groups' next trip on the park which, to me, is doable as long as it's the same amount of people that were inconvenienced. Comping tickets is no issue as the park gives out tons of free tickets a year. it gets tricky with accommodation but the park does have cabins and a new hotel. I personally don't see it being an issue with the park also looking into to a way to reimburse for the transportation to and from but that's me. Also, if they were staying over night, if I had the decision making powers, I would have hosted them to another local spot to enjoy that night as well as dinner but that's me.

This is what I don't understand is we do not know the exact reason the park shut down so to say . . .

Is kinda ignorant, not saying you're ignorant (as I have to make that disclaimer) but the statement itself is. It's not like that park closed an entire weekend and said deal with it. We really do not know why the park closed We only know hearsay.

I have no dog in this fight to be perfectly honest. No one will be talking about the "great day Carowinds decided to close 5 hours early" for years to come. I hope those who were severely inconvenienced (even though I personally would not plan a major trip to a regional park during this time unless a MAJOR event was coming) were able to work out more than a "come back until DEC 31st" resolution.

I thought it was bad last year when they were closing Winterfest nights for rain or cold weather. This 3pm-during-a-weekend-that-wasn't-originally-on-the-calendar-anyway complaining is gold!

Thanks for confirming that! I was wondering if it was always on the calendar. Now. I wonder when they made the decision to add it?

Can't remember when it was added. But I can tell you that I went through the Carowinds calendar just before opening weekend and made a Google Calendar of the hours posted - this weekend was not on it.

They formally announced the Peanuts Celebration in early August. But regardless of if this was "on the schedule" 8 months ago, they didnt spontaneously decided to open up and see what happened - they scheduled, announced, and promoted it as an event, at which point they should be committed to see it through no matter the results. This wasnt winding up early at the end of a slow night, it was suddenly cancelling half the day for no reason*. From a PR perspective, it was in fact an obvious blunder (and deleting the closing announcement and subsequent complaints off social media is surprisingly shady, too).

(and by "for no reason", I mean none was stated - the rest of the year, any unscheduled closing announcement has included a "due to heavy rain/snow/extreme cold/etc", they've never just said "meh, we have decided to close for the day".)

In a nutshell, the park closed early last Saturday (3 instead of the posted 8) and they didn't state a reason. They did state that if you brought tickets for Saturday, they would be good for any day this season. Of course people were upset and outraged but it is what it is. The next day the park opened as planned and closed as planned. No animals or babies were hurt in the process but you wouldn't think that the way some reacted.
