I've been asked to put out the word about something related to the Flyers. Please, don't rock the tub. Apparently, some families are getting totally freaked out by. Its also wear and tear on the equipment too. The snapping is okay. But, just don't rock the tubs by swinging your body back and forth.

I wasn't a big offender with this anyways... but how on earth does slightly rocking them side to side while stationary damage the equipment when you are flinging them around making huge "ka-chunk" noises and snapping the cables? It just seems like they are choosing to fight the lesser of two maintenence evils (Thank god though!).

P.S. and yes, I will respect the park's wishes as they are so gracious to allow us snapping in the first place. Was just wondering why this is even an issue compared to snappage :blink:

I think he's talking about when you are flying, not when the ride is off.

Kenb and I were at the flyers Saturday and were wondering how in the world could you rock the thing in the first place?

I really don't see how you could do it while in flight.

I've seen a lot of kids slamming the sails back and forth really fast
like they think that makes them look cool or is going to make their
scooter fly crazier or something. They are just kids and they don't know,
but I hope that that behavior doesn't damage the ride.

A few of the scooters were a bit squeeky today, like they needed some
WD40 or something. Hope they maintain those cables well. I know
a few of us really put those cables to the test.

Wrong, you can rock the tubs by shaking the sail.

While you can do that in the air, his body says do not rock the tobs by swinging your body side to side specifically. The only time people sit there and swing back and forth is when the ride isn't in motion. Saying that the rocking during the ride damages it, while people are going crazy with the snappage, would be absolutely rediculous. I'm thinking that this warning applied only to the people who sat there and made the tubs rock before the ride moved, which sometimes caused all of them to bounce up and down a little bit.

You can actually twist the tub the wrong way if you are:

A ) Snapping
and
B ) At the same time leaning back and forth so that you cause extra stress on the cables and bend them even more than snapping would do.

It's possible.

I watched this guy that was leaning very heavily on the left side of his tub that looked like he would fall out any moment. I don't know if it helped him get higher or not, but it didn't look that safe.

On a very windy day the guy behind me bumped me, but not too hard at the end of the ride.

It kind of shocked me though. lol

I definitely slammed into the tub in front of me during the slow-down on opening day as well (the tub had a small boy in it lol). It made such a huge BOOM sound I figured the ride op would warn us to stop being crazy on them (or at least ask us if we were ok), but instead he ran out and gave us both high fives and was yelling "YEA! THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' ABOUT!!!" It was pretty funny, but shocked me a bit when I hit him. Not surprisingly, I haven't seen this particularly crazy ride-op (the black guy who was working opening day) in the park since the first two weeks of operation. Sad, because he was one of the most exciting workers in the park.

Also, It is impossible to hit the queue cover OR the ground unless one of the cables actually breaks. The length of the cables won't allow either of these things to happen, but you CAN hit the tub in front of you during the slowdown of the ride if both tubs are swinging around pretty heavily.

Not true, for the queue cover at least, since I hit it myself on Thursday.

EDIT: And I've been told that people at Kings Island managed to hit the ground quite a few times

^ Hmm.... odd indeed. I guess I just found it hard to believe that they wouldn't have taken into account the length of the cables in the placement of the queue area, if it is infact true that you hit it (since you can get a mid-air snap right over it, hear the sound, and think you hit it).

About the ground, I know they can rock back QUITE a bit, but it seems like it would be too easy to mistake the KaChunk snapping noise for the sound of hitting the ground.

I guess each case IS possible, but highly highly unlikely. Even on my greatest snaps I haven't managed to hit the ground or the queue, but maybe they just have to be at the perfect place.
