General Carowinds discussion

I just thought I would post this here to save you guys the trouble I experienced at the park during my recent trip....

It seems that Carowinds is getting a bit stricter on the "don't rock the tub forwards" rule. During my ride, as my car swooped down to the ground, I would lean my back forward a bit (as in... six inches) off of the back of the tub (my butt still firmly on the seat) so that when the car snapped it wouldn't hit me in the back. I'm sure you guys know how terrible that feels to be smacked in the back when you get a good snap. After one or two times, the ride-op began SHOUTING over the loudspeaker "DO NOT ROCK THE TUBS!" Me, not knowing what was wrong, just completely stopped snapping and sat still for the rest of the ride. When it stopped, the woman comes huffing and puffing over to me (didn't look like she got off the stool much) screaming about how I'm going to break the ride. When I tried to kindly explain that I wasn't rocking the tub, she informed me that I was leaning forward and rocking the tub (even though my weight wasn't shifting AT ALL). Anyways, I just reported her for being extremely rude and not getting off of her arse after any of the ride cycles.

I just wanted to warn you guys to keep your backs against the back of the tub or else they might start yelling in the name of this rule. It was quite embarassing being called out in front of the whole line for it, even if I wasn't actually doing anything wrong.

Enjoy the snappage! .... just keep your backs against the bar!

I do the same thing as you with leaning forward when I can feel it about to snap. One of the first times I went there this year, I had a sore back for a week from smacking against the side of the car. It's good to see they care about something, at least. The other day a kid had his leg hanging out of the car, and when an operator from another ride (who was of course there having a conversation with the flyer op) pointed it out, the op replied with "So...?".

:o Carowinds needs to better pick their employees because it is those kind of ops that will get some one hurt.

Did this ride op think that your 'rocking' was causing the snappage?

what an idiot...

I don't know what she thought, but she quickly (and rudely) started screaming at me over the loudspeaker (in front of a line full of guests) when I really started going. When I got off, she informed me that "flinging" the cables was okay (obviously), but that leaning forward in the car puts wear on the front cable?!? Yea... ok lady. I just told her that I wasn't rocking my weight forward like she so rudely told me I was, and that I was protecting my back from getting slammed. She then warned me not to do it again, and returned to her permenant perch on the stool. What a rude, fat, annoying woman.

The fat one? I think I know who your talking about, she didn't say anything to me when I was going crazy on tuesday. Maybe your complaint worked...

Yea she is quite large. She also REPEATEDLY makes the annoying announcement about "Swing it wide to fly high and if you wanna go low wiggle it a little!" She chuckles a bit every time she says it, as if she has really just outdone herself on the humor. Other than this outbreak, she seems to be cheery, someone should just update her on the rules (which hopefully the complaint facilitated).

Other then the ride ops being slow to check restraints, etc, i have never had problems with them...

I have noticed that safety appears to become a bigger issue to them though - earlier in the season they hardly looked at the seat belt, now they actually tug at it to make sure it is tight..

Some ride ops actually enjoy to watch the occasional snap, after a series of boring little kid cycles...

and a little off topic: ;)

i'm amazed at the amount of little kids who are learning to snap. When watching the ride i see ppl snap for the first time, w/o meaning too, and alot of times they catch on, repeating it. It used to be so rare to see a snap but now they come almost every cycle.... hopefully that doesn't mean a tightening of the rules..

^ Yea my favorite ones to watch are the little children who accidentally get a snap, look terrified, and then quickly catch on and begin liking it. Very entertaining.

I have seen that safety is a toss up throughout the season. While the rideops are AMAZINGLY slow every time (very consistent), sometimes they tug, sometimes they look, sometimes they don't even walk around the ride. It's completely random, and that's a little frightening with the really low height limit that the ride has.

The flyer crew has gotten formal complaints at guest services from me almost every trip since they fired the awesome black guy. Bad move Carowinds!

I was there Saturday AM and didn't see this woman and never have. Maybe she only works during the week. Hopefully she's not there anymore.

Maybe she was moved with the complaints...

the two guys working Tuesday were pretty cool but slow as ever...

You kind of feel sorry for them working in that heat all day, but they check it so slow...

on a different note - it seems as if ride lines for the Flyers have definately died down lately... :D half the front queue is the usual for me, and i've been there quite a bit this season - 12 all-day visits. The few times it extends to the end of the first queue, I only ride once to go seat hopping on Top Gun ! ;)
