They had an article stating the following:

BORG Assimilator was recently recognized by America Online’s Digital CityGuide as one of the top ten theme park thrills in the U.S.

BORG was given the title as the South’s Loopiest Coaster. The review said BORG has “more inversions than any in the South, including a 68-foot vertical loop and a 115-foot horseshoe inversion.”

In all, you go through eight stomach-dropping inversions as you fly below the track at 51 mph. The ride includes more than half a mile of track, but lasts just 2 minutes, 47 seconds. BORG is the tallest coaster at Carowinds, the only flying coaster in the Carolinas, and it’s the first in the world to carry a Star Trek theme.

I'm sorry, but this is the 2nd time in recent history that one of Carowinds coasters has been called "best in the country". I'm not here to berate (sp?) the park and put it down, but I would hardly call Borg a top 10 attraction in the country.

Unfortuantley like the ads for the coaster last year, it's a little deceptive saying that the coaster has 8 inversions when it really only has about 5 if you count each flipover as a half inversion like you should.

Oh well, I'm glad that the park is getting recognized, it just seems like it's always something for the CP fanboys to make fun of when it does happen. lol j/k

And don't take this the wrong way, I love Borg and I'm glad we got it. I just wouldn't rank it up there with Kingda Ka and TTD.

Yea, i know exactly what you mean. I mean, its fun, but it's not THAT fun, after a few rides at least. Top Gun is lots better...and i dont even think that would quite make my personal top ten list.

I wouldn't rank TTD or Kingda Ka in any polls. They never run enough to make it worth the long wait for it. <_<

You guys have to look at it this way, not all of the GP goes to theme parks on a regular let alone travel the country to go to them. So to them BORG just may be the "most thrilling" coaster they may have ridden. To tell you the truth, I thought carowinds was the best park until I start branching out and traveling and although I really enjoy carowinds I realize its more out there...

So that can be the reason why its such a "spectacular" ride to some...

Yes, but a group rating the top 10 coasters in any region should be pretty well rounded in the coasters they have ridden throughout that region.

Speaking of branching out, I just returned from a trip to Ohio where I visited Cedar Point and Kings Island. TTD was shut down all day Monday. Millenium Force, Magnum, Gemini and Wicked Twister were my favorites. I was really disappointed with Mean Steak as the ride was a little rough for a woodie and the pacing was terrible.

As for PKI, I was really surprised that most people consider this the flagship park for Paramount. SOB as advertised was extremley rough, Face Off worked about half of the time, Top Gun does not compare to the Big Bad Wolf. I will say though that the Beast was awsome. I would trade Borg any day of the week for this classic. Delerium was shut down all day(for no apparant reason as nobody was seen working on it). The Itilain Job was okay, but the wait was not worth the ride. Tomb Raider had nice theming, but the ride was way to short.

I thought that PKD was just as good as PKI and PC a very close second. Maybe I'm biased towards PC.

You aren't the only one. I think Carowinds and Kings Dominion are on about the same level, but both are superior to Kings Island in my opinion. Delirium must be having some major issues, because it was down when I was there at the beginning of June as well.

^ Boy I'm glad I decided to do my vacation and go to PKI's media day this year!

I got two rides on Delerium. It's awesome. Even that day it was up and down several times.

I have to agree that I'm beginning to think PKD and PC are the best of the chain.

PKD definetley has the best selection of coasters of any of the Paramount parks IMO.

I'd also trade Borg any day for Beast!! Just take those stinking trims off of Beast and I'd be happy! It ruins the first half of the ride now on Beast. <_<

I wish I could transcribe the voice mail I had waiting for me last night about this topic. Trust me, I'm still laughing over it. I got the whole lowdown on the 8 inversions and it makes sense. Wish I could explain it the way it got explained to me.

Really my gripe was with "The list" not Borg or Carowinds.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I only consider Borg to have 3 inversions! I don't consider the rollerovers inversions.

As do I. I'm really curious to hear this eight inversion explanation, though.

Okay, here's how it was explained to me...the definition of inverted is: (using a def. that I found after hearing the original explanation) "being in such a position that top and bottom are reversed" and " turned back 180 degrees." The rollovers do flip you 180 so that's where they get the "inversions" from. So, they wouldn't be half inversions, they are inversions according to the definition.

Now for the rundown on the inversions: the first one is the rollover at the top of the hill, the next one before the loop, the loop, coming out of the loop, before the corkscrews, the two corkscrews. That's seven so I guess they're counting the horseshoe element as one. (It doesn't seem to flip you over 180 but close.) So, that would be eight.

So, Borg does have 8 inversions and three upside down elements (adjusting for the train of thought.)
