Well, I'm not sure if it counts as a coaster, but I love Blazing Fury. :D

Yeah that does. Its one of my favorites in a small indoor scenery section. Anyway the best coaster is Thunderhead. Then if you want to go 70mph through 3 loops you have to walk nearly a half a mile or more to tennesee tornado.

It is not a rip off. Dollywood is a great park....lots of flats and tons, and I mean tons of water rides!

Coasters:
Thunderhead is the best coaster there. Wooden, twisted, excellent! Front is fiun and so is back, but I prefer middle.

Tennesee Tornado is the best arrow looper. It is fast and fun. The best seat (I think) is the front. You feel like your going to go off the track! The middle is fun and the back pulls some g's.

Blazing Fury is fun, though it is small. The back is the best.....

Water Rides:
Daredevil Falls.....don't ride in the front. You get soaked. Any other seat just a little wet.

River Rampage: Great water rapids....you will get wet (or come off dry) depends on where the boat is.

Mountain Slidewinder-fun water slide. But you will get soaked!

Flats are awesome. I recomend going to splash country. It is a lot of fun. By the splash and play tickets: 2 parks 3 days.

You will enjoy dollywood...I was there last week!

Yea, Thunderhead is an awesome GCI twister. It put up a good battle with the Beast in a fight for my # 1 coaster, but the classic feel of the beast won...but only by the slightest of margins. I dont think it has a bad seat, but i personally love the front (it's great at night as well). Tennessee Tornado as coasterdude89 said, the BEST arrow looper. Very smooth, nice tunnel, nicely built onto the side of a mountain in a vallely, tight inversions, and probnably the WIDEST loop you will ever encounter lol...it gives you great airtime anywhere you sit. But they also have great flats there (and lots of them...especially compared to carowinds) including one of my favorites, a tilt-and-hurl...i mean tilt-a-whirl.

coasterdude your starting to sound like a press release. I wouldnt call 3 water rides tons and flatrides, where are they other than the kiddy ones (with like 4 for adults) in the county fair section. Basically dollywood is a showpark and a scenic park so if your looking for thrills then you may be dissapointed...

well, they used to have a log flume as well as the 3 water rides he mentioned, so that could be said to be more than usual. That and blazing fury's surprise ;) And they really do have lots of great flats:
Dizzy Disk (never been on one, but it looks interesting)
Lemon Twist (spinning cup rides are always fun)
Sky Rider (also, never been on one, but it looks like it could be kind of fun...and it says the piolot and co-pilot have controls, wonder what they do)
Waltzing Swinger (SWINGS...a classic flat ride that are always fun)
Carousel (a classic ride that is a must for amusement enthusiasts)
Dolly's Demolition Derby (how can you NOT love bumper cars?)
Rockin' Roadway (maybe it's just me, but i have always loved these rides...not sure why, i just love them though. They always bring a smile to my face)
Wonder Wheel (woot woot, bring on the ferris wheel)

I also note they have many showcase type attractions that are sort of mini-museums. And THEY HAVE A TRAIN...i remember going on it, it's a very nice backwoods ride, nice and scenic. And it has one of those silly little gunfights like Twetsie Railroad. Those are fun to just relax after hours of running around. The park also has many types of gifts and gift places. Sometimes it's fun to watch the blacksmith at work, or the glass blower making his designs, or the smaller glass figure makers. The park just has such a great atmosphere, much like that of the more traditional parks. Walking from the entrance, Tennesse Tornado is in the very back of the park, about 20-25 minute walk if i remember (walking fast of course), but if you want multiple rides, go early in the day (few head back there first because it is so far away).

It's a GREAT park if you go in with the right mindset. The number of coasters doesn't really matter - the ones they do have are very good (Tennessee Tornado) and freakin' excellent (Thunderhead). The food is really, really good. The atmosphere is great. They have a great train ride that gives some great views of Thunderhead as a bonus. They have quite a few good water rides and flat rides. The staff is incredibly friendly and the park is run very well.

And, again, they have Thunderhead. That's my #2 woodie, just narrowly being beat out by Georgia Cyclone since that one still manages to scare me sometimes in the back row. That said, I'd say Thunderhead is about the most fun coaster I've been on, and is not just re-rideable, it begs to be ridden over and over. I'd much rather go to a good park and ride something like Thunderhead 15-20 times than to go to an OK park and ride a few good coasters and a bunch of crappy ones once or twice each.

yea, during the 1hr night ERT last year at Dollywood, i got on 12 rides (6 sets of double rides) including the final ride of the night. Never had to wait for a train, after each set though i did have to get back in line (but there wasnt one) and usually got right back on the train i just got off of practically. It is very re-rideable. It never lets up with its pacing. Like KenB said, the staff is friendly, the food is good, the atmosphere is awesome. You should have lots of fun!!

I was at one of the 1 hour ERT events last year as well. Take advantage of them if you can since night rides on Thunderhead is quite a rarity in a park that closes at 8pm all summer. Thunderhead in the dark is something to behold!!

Some shocking news from Court TV this evening...

Man sues Dollywood for $20 million (Court TV Article)

By Emanuella Grinberg

A Mississippi electrician who brought his family to singer Dolly Parton's namesake amusement park for a vacation says his Smoky Mountain adventure ended in severe brain damage.

Arthur Miller, who visited the Pigeon Forge, Tenn., theme park in 2000, is seeking $20 million in damages from Dollywood and Dolly Parton Productions stemming from his ill-fated jaunt on the Blazing Fury, an indoor roller coaster that takes passengers through an Old West town "with great speed," according to Dollywood's Web site.

A suit filed in U.S. District Court in Knoxville last week alleges that the defendants took inadequate measures to warn riders that "the unexpected turns and drops occurred in the dark and with such severity that a rider's head or neck could be snapped or whipped in such a way as to cause brain damage or stroke."

"It's a complicated case because of the medical injuries involved," said Mark Gratz, the plaintiff's attorney. "It took some heavy hitters to analyze the medical records."

Miller's lawyers say the aggressive twists and turns caused his neck to pop and are to blame for the vertigo and nausea that he developed immediately following the ride.

Almost five years later, Miller claims he is devoid of all sensory perception and motor skills and regularly experiences "debilitating strokes."

Miller's wife, who is also a plaintiff in the suit, is seeking an extra $2 million for the loss of her husband's consortium and other "tangible benefits" including "love, affection, attention, caring and companionship."

Miller's lawyers say the oversight makes the suit a flashpoint for the largely unregulated nature of amusement park rides.

"It's not just about the failure to warn about the ride, but the failure to maintain the ride," said co-counsel George Dent. "The industry has ignored this risk and wants it to go away."

In fact, soon after Miller's injury occurred, U.S. Rep. Edward Mackey (D-Mass.) instigated a congressional hearing on amusement park ride safety.

In Tennessee, where tourist-attracting businesses such as Dollywood have revitalized local economies and where a former amusement park manager was recently convicted of homicide for a visitor's death, State Rep. Richard Montgomery has been pushing for new safety legislation for years.

"We needed to develop a board to provide oversight and make sure that the laws we passed were being enforced," Montgomery said.

New laws, which go into effect January, will require parks to prove they have $1 million insurance policies before an independent safety inspection of the specific ride can go forward, or else the ride may not operate.

A spokesperson for Dollywood said the park denies Miller's claims and remains proud of its role as an industry leader in terms of safety.

"Our rides are monitored continuously and meticulously throughout the year, whether the park is opened or closed," said spokesman Pete Owens.

Owens said he is unaware of any previous injury involving the Blazing Fury, which he said predates Dollywood's buyout of the amusement park property 20 years ago.

He also said Dollywood has been cited on numerous occasions for going beyond the industry standards set by American Society of Testing for Testing Materials, which provides independent testing of its rides each year.

"On the Smoky Mountain train ride, we make adults sit on the outside seat and the kids on the inside, even though we are not required to," Owens said.
