Found this on screamscape...old photos of KD from 1978. Its amazing to remember how big the lake actually was back then next to Rebel Yell with King Kobra sitting in the background in that one photo.

My how times have changed.

Those are great photos. Man, did we actually dress like that back then?

If any of you have seen the old movie Roller Coaster you should know that PKD was big in that movie. I rented it and took alot of "snap" shots of the park.

Ahh, and those <a href='http://www.buzzneon.com/coasters/kings_dominion_1978/index.php?title=kd_ry_09.jpg' target='_blank'>single click lap bars</a> on Rebel Yell are most visible in the color photos. I remember the good ole days <in the not so distant past> when Thunder Road had those too.

I've always had an interest in Kings Dominion's early years, just like Carowinds. You don't really run across much from KD back in the day, so I am always very happy when something like this comes along.

It must have been amazing to visit the monstrous park when it first opened. It seems like it was very unique, with the animal areas, Lake Charles, and just the park in general.
