General Carowinds discussion

With it getting close to Christmas and all, I though this would be an interesting topic.

The online surveys Paramount conducted over the past summer showed that the company did have interest in bringing back some sort of Christmas celebration for their parks.

I would personally like the idea of the park being open some around the holidays, just as long as there are some rides open. (Not just shopping like the original Winterfest) Maybe they could put some lights up and offer holiday entertainment. I wouldn't mind braving the cold if it was for an interesting expierience.

Not sure about operating coasters though. Might be a little to cold for them if gets below 38 or 40 degrees.

What's your opinion?

I would definitely like that a lot. I'm sure they could take a look at some of the things Dollywood does during their Christmas season. I'm not sure about what rides can run it what temperature and what rides can't, but maybe a few of the flat rides could be open. I think one of the problems though would be which area of the park to open. The most logical thing to do would be to open the front stretch of the park, but then there would be a fairly small ride selection; maybe part of Animation Station and Rocket Power. The other side could extend over to the Paramount Theatre which would be used for something, making the Kaleidascope available to be open. County Fair would also be a good choice, since there are 3 rides there that can probably run in the Winter.

This is an interesting idea and I would go even if rides weren't open. It would actually give me a chance to REALLY peruse the shops since I wouldn't be running from ride to ride. Barbara and I were at Dollywood a couple of years back for our anniversary (late November). Their decorations are really impressive and moved us into the xmas spirit. Carowinds could do something similiar and make the parking free as an incentive.

Now imagine what they could do if they still had that old trolley car, the train and dare I say it, the sternwheeler all running for the event. THAT would make for a beautiful carolina Christmas event. A barbershop quartet singing from the bow of the the old girl. Hot apple cider, chestnuts, egg nog and hot chocolate served by period dressed street vendors as you hear the distant whistle of the train. A large Xmas tree in the open square just over the bridge and santas villiage in the Carolina Boardwalk section where you can visit santa. The atrium lit with thousands of twinkling colored lights and park talent moving through the park dressed like snowmen and elves.... ahh the possibilities. I would be in heaven.

Actually, the thought had crossed my mind a few times in the past about Carowinds changing the light bulbs on Thunder Road during the off season to red and green alternating bulbs. I'm an hour and a half from the park so i don't know if they even burn the regular lights while the park is closed. As for the park being open, I think that they should only do some sort of walkthrough lighting display. The park has plenty of lights and if they can change them for Scarowinds, they can do the same for a Christmas event. The rides should just stay in storage for the winter. :)

Speaking of winter, carowinds should get one of those bobsled coasters like they have at kings dominion, boy that was one of the best coasters I've ever been on...

I didn't say that I would go just to see those lights. I only said that I do not know if the park lights up Thunder Road during the off season. The walkthrough exhibition would be good for the locals.

For Top Gun the mist tunnel will be off so no worries to freeze your butt off anymore than what it would be

For those of you curious about some of the sights of WF, check out the photos I took tonight. Some aren't the best but you'll get the general idea. I'll be posting my impressions from the media event later.
