I've seen video where one of the cables snapped and the cage slammed into one of the uprights. Frightening to say the least.

I rode the one in Pigeon Forge back in 1995 and that's the last time I have ridden one. I video taped some friends riding the one at the Puyallup Fair. That thing was twice as tall as the one in TN.

Also, Carowinds looked at getting a sling-shot back in 2001 but changed their mind as they so frequently do. I'd rather have a Skyscraper personally.

I think it's always been "County" Fair at Carowinds.

Some other parks use country though. :)

Duke! Do you have a bigger picture of your avatar? I was telling somebody about that story with the "hillbilly" and the old lady knitting while riding Thunder Road and they didn't believe me. I use to have that same pic on a post card (or a photo of it) and I don't know what happened to it. I'd love to have a copy of it.

I'd LOVE to have a Giant Frisbee, Disk-O (Dollywood got one this year) or an S&S Screamin Swing. <--- Those things rock!!!

I rode the Disk-O at Dollywood and it was AWESOME it feels like your going off the top of it!!

Looks like the competition down south (SFOG) has decided on a name for their new toy. Goliath. Boy, that's original.

You know I didn't even think of Goliath when I got the notification for the Media Event on September 1st! lol

When they said they will have a GIANT of a ride, Golith didn't even cross my mind. lol!!!!

Oh well, I like that name but as the story of David and Goliath says, the bigger they are the harder they FALL! Just hope this one doesn't dissapoint, which I hope it doesn't.

*crossing fingers for a B&M!!!!*

Dukeis#1 Since a lot of people seem to want a copy of that pic (myself included) why not just start a thread with it in there or post it here and that way you don't have to email all of us???

That WAS Thunder Rd right? I've never seen those trains before. They must have removed the front of the trains at that point because of the weight issue Scott talked about Saturday. I love history of parks and his explanation about why they removed the old trains made a lot of since and made me very sad as well that I will never see them in person, because they were scrapped. :(

I visited the park opening year (I was 1 lol!) so I feel sure that I was probably out there when they were running, but I was maybe like 4 or 5 when they were so I don't remember anything about the park from that era. My first real memories of the park were my early teens and the Oaken Bucket! I also miss that ride.

^ i was talking to cephas the other day about that ride.....

i mean, they coulf fit several flats into country fair....

and a rotor ride takes close to no space! i also thought that a ferris wheel would be a nice addition for families, and of course - the huss giant frisbee..... they could also move back the scream weaver, i'm sure there's enough room... and then we'd have a real nice country fair!! just add another sitdown restaurant, maybe a chain restaurant, like some of the bigger parks, and its perfect!

^ Exaclty. I agree 100%

I loved what Dollywood did with Country Fair (not County Fair like at PC) although I do hate that they scrapped the old log flume. That thing got you wetter than most newer models!
