General Carowinds discussion

Since there was much interest in my avatar, I'll go ahead and post the whole pic here as well as some other stuff. All of these images were taken from an old souvenir guide book that must have been sold in the park during the '76 season.

(Picture quality is not the best, because of both my scanner and the old age of the book)

Looking at it now, it appears this picture was taken just seconds before the one that Swampfox pointed out in the other thread.

A cartoonish rendering of the ride that shows the theme:

This last pic is cool. It apparently shows one of the RV trains backstage having one of the faux car fronts attached:

Hope everyone enjoys the images! (Hope they work too!)

Awesome. Thanks so much for posting those. I had never seen a really good picture of the old trains before.

Great stuff there Duke!

Grabbed a scan of this 1977 brochure <a href='http://members.aol.com/earlywinds/brochure77.jpg' target='_blank'>here</a>. Loved how they promoted TR & WL on the cover.

Speaking of Thunder Road.....

I'd love to see that gleaming white structure return for the 30th anniversary. Basically, a return to Thunder Roads original paint scheme. Yeh, I know.....we've beat this idea into the ground almost as much as the hyper under the bridge idea..

I'd be willing to help paint in my spare time though. Would anyone else??

Does anyone notice that that is Great American Revolution at Magic Mountain?

Dead giveway is the colors of the train.

^I was wondering who would be the first to notice that.

Good eye there RollerNut!

he was referring to the 1977 <a href='http://members.aol.com/earlywinds/brochure77.jpg' target='_blank'>brochure</a>.:

They should have just handed me a brush and a bucket of paint today. Check out the trip reports section to find out more.

I inquired about them painting the ride for next season. None of the ride ops had heard if it was going to be repainted.

Well considering that the park has let TR go "natural" over the past couple years, I say leave it the way it is now.

I love pricstine painted white racers, but I'd much rather have the wood look natural, than have the paint chipping off any day! I really like the way it looks now and it won't cost the park any more money on paint!

Hmmmm... Mark I sense a CC/ACE event in the making! Help *cough*save*cough* I mean PAINT Thunder Road!

It's funny you mentioned that.

I almost posted that all they'd have to do is supply lunch and the labor would be free.

I too am like you. I love Thunder Road painted but the upkeep on the paint I don't think is worth it. So I say leave it alone but if you want it painted let's do lunch.

I wouldn't mind seeing even the station going the way of Cyclone. You know, just old looking wood. Then put a Moonshine Still inside the backwards entrance (as it leaves the station) and an old Police car in the entrance to the forward track (as it leaves the station)

Just to add a little flair of the ole' days and how it got to be named Thunder Road.
