Yea, it'd be nice if they could build a tunnel, but its location doesnt allow it. The drop is too close to the train, water ride, etc, that if they wanted it to go down underground, the drop would probably have to be near vertical. It probably is only 200ft with 175ft drop becasue of the size of the area its fitting into. Once across the road it doesnt have much room to wind around in, if it were taller the track would have to be longer and probably extend outward further, which i'm not sure if it could do this (i'm not sure about this since i havent been there for a few years). One the other topic someone was saying how the hills looked to slow at the top...i think it is just the computer simulation. If it is anything like the other B&M hypers, it will provide good airtime (note the parabola shaped tops of the hills)

well we could go back and forth on this all night. My point is this. If SF wanted to have a 200' drop, they could've had one. It doesn't matter how close it is to the train, flume, road, vertical drop, etc. If they wanted it, it could've been done. The fact of the matter is, SF either didn't WANT nor CARE nor AFFORD the cost of doing a 200' drop.

I took marketing and business in college so it is natural for me to question certain park decisions, especially when they are deemed to have a huge monetary impact.

It's very possible that SF didn't particularly care about anything except the "Interstate effect". Which in this case, seems to be awe inspiring. It's gonna be a helluva ride regardless.

But that's all on this. I don't wanna be taken into custody by all the SFoG fans that read CCC.

^ I can see the headline already...

"Massive pileup in parking lot entrance from members of ACE drooling over new coaster". lol

While the height underwhelmed me as well I remember that the coaster currently tied for #1 steel on my list is Apollo's Chariot which is only 170 feet tall with a 205 foot drop I believe.

So height doesn't mean everything.

I also looked at the track length of all the B&M Hypers on rcdb.com yesterday and it will be shorter than all of them, 400ft shorter than AC.

Doesn't mean it will automatically be boring, but I'll just wait and see when Spring Fling comes how it rides!

I totally understand what your saying but I think at first they were like cool lets build a hyper coaster with this and that and this and that. Then when reality struck they were left w/ a catch 22 situation and had to make a rash decision. I think they were stuck on the fact that they wanted it in the front of the park by any means and already loosing 2 rides I dont think they wanted to deconstruct any buildings or more rides so to do that they decided to have the coaster go over the existing stuff. Now it could have very well been built in the back of the park w/ a 200 ++ drop but will it have the same lasting effect of it towering over the front of the park and being the first thing you see when 'rounding the corner. so with that said, they probably did want a 200ft drop but realize if they wanted the coaster where they wanted it, not everything could happen and so they say whatever put it in the front w/ a lesser drop still will have the same effect to those coaster whores!

I am personally not a fan of the ride's location. I don't like how the entire front area of the park will look like a jungle of steel supports after this is completed. Practically running a roller coaster over the main entrance seems somewhat tacky as well, sort of Roller Coaster Tycoon-ish.

I'm sure it will seem cool to everyone else. I guess this is the point where Six Flags Over Georgia finally looses it's identity and just becomes another chain park.

Of course, I am excited about the new coaster and I'm sure it will be a great addition to the park. (It better be anyway. Hate to have lost Gasp for a POS) SFOG has been waiting long for such a ride, and maybe this will pull the park's attendance up out of the downward spiral its been in over the last several years.

Personally I like the way they have it set up and they said they will have it goin over trees and they assured us that the park will not loose their beautiful landscape. B)

I was always skeptic of the placement of it. Even with the pictures, I guess I'll have to vanquish that skepticism when it comes to ride it.

Like I said, I'm looking forward to it...but...

I totally agree. Although I'm jealous (because I want PC to have a coaster 200ft plus) I really hope that if PC ever does it will be a legit Hyper with a 200ft plus height and drop. Also would like to see something run a distance of 5000ft.

AND........ that is starts out near the front of the park, and dives under the bride and then ATTACKS the BORG ASSIMALATOR............... (the "Enterprise" going right through the loop of the BorgAss

similar to the Dueling Dragons in Florida...........

Have the two coasters in combat with lights and special effects of some kind (have the "phasers" of the "Enterprise" shoot the BorgShip ™ and the water splash up around the BorgShip ™.

We can all dream, right??? :D

i know people are tired of resurfacing old threads, but i didn't want to start a new one, merely show those who hadn't been watching sfog's website very carefully the progress they've been making:

Many new improvements for Six Flags Over Georgia this season. Perhaps the Six Flags chain is about to have a second era of glory days...

Six Flags chain's new chief wants cleaner, kiddie-oriented parks
Thrill rides to take back seat to shows

By MATT KEMPNER
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 01/26/06

Something gnawed at the new chief executive of the troubled Six Flags theme park chain as he marched up a hill inside Six Flags Over Georgia on Wednesday.

A worker had told him that visitors stood in two-hour-long lines for the Thunder River water ride only to see some boats sitting idle.

Mark Shapiro, a 35-year-old former ESPN programming chief, called out to the entourage of about 20 suited Six Flags executives trailing him as he toured the park.

"We've got to cut those lines," Shapiro said. "Get those four boats. Write that down. 'Thunder River.' "

Using the boats will increase labor costs a little, but Shapiro is rearranging spending priorities for the nation's largest chain of regional theme parks, which for years has lost money while staggering under more than $2 billion in debt.

Shapiro — on the job for just a month — wants to attract more families with young children to the parks, which have become havens for teens.

Shapiro promises to clean up properties, improve customer service, offer more shows, avoid constructing monstrously expensive thrill rides and focus on gentler kiddie rides.

One example of his aim to send a different message: Reduce reliance on past advertising staple Mr. Six, the dancing bald man in a tux who looks like a senior citizen on a roller-coaster-load of speed.

"I'm not sure what he stands for," Shapiro said.

The Six Flags park in Austell plans to start daily parades this spring and daily laser shows and fireworks in the summer. Roving costumed characters will increase from one or two a day to 30 every hour, Shapiro said.

The park is adding 150 garbage cans and stationing staff in every restroom. The entire chain has adopted a policy to restrict smoking.

"Parents don't want their kids walking around in clouds of smoke," Shapiro said.

The man who helped ESPN build high-stakes poker into a national passion envisions Six Flags attracting visitors by perhaps holding an Atlanta Falcons day or an Atlanta Braves day, with past and present members of the teams.

"We need buzz," he said, adding later, "Theme parks are all about marketing."

Locally, customers have had gripes: trash and wads of chewed gum, long lines, closed rides and an atmosphere catering mostly to teenagers.

Attendance dropped

Six Flags opened a water area called Skull Island last year that was supposed to attract families, but annual park attendance dropped 3 percent, to fewer than 2 million visitors, Shapiro said. Overall North American attendance rose 6 percent to about 35 million visitors.

Shapiro joined the company after a successful power play by shareholder Dan Snyder, who owns the Washington Redskins football team. Snyder became Six Flags' chairman. Already, Shapiro has brought in a number of former colleagues from ESPN, which is owned by Disney, a Six Flags competitor.

The chief executive is touring every park in the chain, bucking up employees, pointing out things to fix and getting a little press.

During his visit to Six Flags Over Georgia on Wednesday morning — his first time in the park — the new chief told employees, "We're trying to put money in the most visible places."

He also said he intends to look for more opportunities to strike exclusive licensing deals, with food companies and others.

One of his biggest moves, though, is to no longer rely on adding expensive thrill rides to juice up attendance. While the attractions hook teens, the attendance spike usually lasts just a year, Shapiro said. "They never pay for themselves."

Six Flags Over Georgia will unveil a mammoth ride this year: the $20 million Goliath, which was approved before Shapiro joined the company. He said flatly, "You won't see any more Goliaths."

Smaller rides for families will cost a tenth of Goliath's price, he said.

Shapiro also faces Six Flags' mountain of debt.

He hopes to sell some of the 3,500 excess acres around parks. He said he doesn't know whether that will include 85 acres at Six Flags Over Georgia — land owned by a partnership that includes other investors — or a smaller parcel at the company-operated White Water park in the Marietta area. He said the company also may sell some parks.

But he said he doesn't anticipate selling Six Flags Over Georgia.

"This is one of our most successful parks."
