I voted for B&M simply because of ride capacity. I love both brands, but B&M trains sit more people thus speeding up your que time.

b/c one ride on Big Shot/and admission to the tower at the Stratosphere was 14.99 (w/ Big Shot's 8 dollars discounted 50% when bought together!)

and the unlimited day pass was 29.95

but those 14.99 were most definately worth it, considering how awesome the stratosphere is at 10pm!

oh and to make this post more on topic,

i agree that B&M generally has great capacity (except on their standups, of course..) so long as the crews are working well and the trains aren't a stacking...

i still prefer intamin....

I voted B&M. I LOVE Apollo's Chariot. I also love Superman:Ride of Steel at SFA, which is Intamin - they often flip-flop on my list as to which I prefer. SROS was a bit more intense in the airtime, but I like the B&M trains quite a bit and they tend to be a bit more creative with their layouts. Mainly, B&M doesn't have the safety and reliability problems that Intamin usually has. Carowinds can do without the drama of having someone getting tossed out of their new hyper.

Goliath looks like B&M's interpretation of SROS to me - it's mainly airtime hills with a helix and some overbank turns. Even the little hops before the brakerun remind me of SROS, although Apollo has similar bunnys as well. Carowinds and SFOG both have B&M standups and inverts, and both have flying coasters so I don't know that it'd be much of a stretch for both to have B&M hypers.

I wouldn't mind an Intamin if they redesign the trains / restraints to where they're safer AND more comfortable, as it'd be something different than what SFOG had. With things the way they are though, I'd feel better about B&M. And two Vekomas in the park are more than enough, thanks!

Well I certainly voted Intamin, mainly for the same reason above. Once you ride S:ROS in New England, nothing compares IMO.

KenB I do not consider Intamin trains unsafe or uncomfortable, but I know we each have our opinions on that.

Another reason I prefer the Intamin style hypers is the narrow track, and low sided 2-across trains. Apollo and Nitro are excellent coasters but they just don't perform the way I like my steel coasters to perform.

I voted B&M.

B&M = Reliable, smooth and conservative designs (in a good way).

I also prefer the B&M Hyper seats and restraints to the Intamin ones.

That being said, I like both. And if we got either one I'd be thrilled.

But Paramount seems to be heading the Busch way these days and trying to get reliable rides and not get burned again a la SOB.

Well from what I've heard the newer restraints they've retrofitted to some of the Intamins since the SFNE SROS accident are pretty uncomfortable. I've only ridden them before the changes so can't say personally, and I didn't find them bad before. Couple that with the whacky seat belt slack rules they have at CP and the number of ejections they've had on a variety of Intamin rides, I'd say there is some kind of problem there that isn't at all evident with the B&M hyper trains.

The other thing - I seriously doubt there will EVER be another SROS @ SFNE. That's probably the only steel coaster that generates that many actual negative G's. Most coasters never actually have negative G's, they just approach zero-G but are still on the positive side. SROS actually has forces trying to throw you from the train. With our current litigious society and a history of accidents, Intamin will probably never do anything nearly that extreme again. They might not even do anything as powerful as the other SROS rides, and stick to something more like MF.

I guess if we re-phrased the question which ride would I want moved here of any current hypers, it'd be SROS @ SFNE no doubt (from what I've heard, I've yet to experience it yet, just it's cousin @ SFA). Since I just don't see anything that extreme coming from Intamin in the future, I like the chances of a good, reliable ride better with B&M.

The most negative g's on a coaster, for me at least, was Hypersonic. With as tight as that seat restraint keeps you in, you still feel like you are gonna fly right out.

I'll chime in here on MF. When we went to CP to ride it, I was really hyped up. After the ride I was like, "That was it?" A bunch of overbanked curves does not make a coaster. To me, I didn't get to enjoy the lift hill at all because it basically just speeds you up the hill and shoves you over the top, no questions asked. I didn't really get the *feel* of the 300ft. Frankly, I don't care if I ride it again. I haven't exactly been in a hurry to go ride TTD either.

Most places that sell tix have a PoP. I'd rather pay the $5 anywho and ride Swampfox once than any of the coasters at PCar any day. Even Top Gun (gasp!). Besides, Family Kingdom has an el cheapo POP bracelet, so your theory there isn't right.

As for Manhattan Express, it is expensive. However, how many places can you go in, get a free drink (and I ain't talkin the Coke or Mt. Dew you drink), then head up and ride a coaster like that? Not many. And you def. can't get those drinks at PCar. Not to mention that, and I should have done this myself but was too worried about other things to really care, on Manhattan Express, if you're doing something right, or you get the right comps/booklets (for free), then you don't have to pay anything for Manhattan Express.

Which is good, because that is the only coaster in Vegas I won't ride again unless it is free, or someone else is paying. And next time I'll have 2 Long Island Iced Teas instead of just one...

It all depends on the layout. I really wasn't impressed with the overall layout of MF. That's one of the things that "killed" it for me. Imagine a SROS or one of the other Intamin hypers with a 300 drop and we'll talk then.

I really don't see a lot of parks rushing out to build them either. The only other "giga" coaster is SBNO in Japan. The "stratas" are spotty in their performance.

I almost agree with Jay. There are people out there who think that CP is the ultimate thrill park and they can do no wrong. I don't. Its an okay park but I can think of other parks that I'd spend the day at. They have some decent flats. The coaster collection is okay. I haven't been in a hurry to go back.
