All-New Horrors Await as Scarowinds 2005 Offers
A Dozen Demented, Terror-filled Experiences
New mazes, FearZones highlight Carolinas’ biggest and best haunted attraction
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Sept. 19, 2005) – Twelve nights of fright, oozing with more chilling thrills than ever before, await guests during Scarowinds sixth sinister season at Paramount’s Carowinds. The largest Halloween event in the Carolinas this year features a dozen diabolical, fear-filled exercises in terror, including two new mazes based on the infamous “Legend of Sleepy Hollow,†four new FearZones and a new motion-simulator movie experience.
Paramount’s Carowinds pulsates with excitement and fear as darkness falls upon the Park in preparation for the return of the Carolinas’ premier Halloween event. Brave souls who dare to enter the grounds of Scarowinds will find more than 60 acres of hair-raising thrills and fearsome fun every Friday and Saturday night from 7 p.m. – Midnight, Sept. 30 - Oct. 29, plus Sunday Oct. 30 and Halloween night, Oct. 31.
“Scarowinds is the number one Halloween event in the Carolinas, so naturally our guests expect us to offer a whole new level of mayhem each and every year,†said Paramount’s Carowinds General Manager Bob White. “Scarowinds 2005 certainly won’t disappoint. We’ve upped the scare factor by adding two frightening new mazes and creating the FearZones. Now guests experience constant terror, whether they’re making their way through an attraction, or running away from one.â€
NEW ATTRACTIONS
Headless Hollow
Foolish travelers tempt fate when walking deep into the Western Woods. Much more than just a vague figure in the dusty pages of an old book, the headless horseman lurks in the shadows of the October moon, waiting to add human heads to his collection. Trespassers beware! The horseman isn’t the only menace encountered during this journey. Driven to insanity by the restless spirits of the forest, “The Hollowers,†an evil clan of woodsmen haunt these paths…and they don’t like visitors!
Massacre Manor
Guests should take heed before exploring the Van Tassel farmhouse, the site of Ichabod Crane’s last hours before his unfortunate encounter with the headless horseman. Crane wasn’t the only victim on that fateful night. In the wee hours of the morning, the horseman slipped quietly into the farmhouse and slaughtered all of its inhabitants. Now, 200 years later, the undead lurk around every corner, their sinister laughter echoing throughout the ruins of the farmhouse. The horseman has crept into this house once before – will he be back to kill again?
Funhouse Express
A dilapidated fun house attraction sends chills down guests’ spines during a hair-raising test drive! Jimmy, a would-be inventor, takes the audience on a wild ride through a spooky and crazy world full of clown chaos in this motion-simulated movie experience located in the Paramount Action F/X Theatre.
FOUR NEW FEARZONES
Guests find little chance of escape from their worst nightmares as four new FearZones, concentrated areas of maddening mischief, line the paths between each horrific Scarowinds attraction.
Slaughter Street – Lights! Camera! Carnage! The filming of a car chase sequence has gone terribly wrong on this movie set. A scene of wreckage, belching smoke and roaming spirits of the undead await those who dare enter on the way to their own untimely demise.
Corpse Cavern – Guests will have to bury their fears when attempting to pass through this fog-filled den of horror. There is only grave danger to be found here as night creatures hide in the shadows, pouncing unexpectedly at surprised passersby.
Spider’s Lair – Travelers should steer clear of this insidious tangle of wicked webs and angry arachnids. Be wary as prickles of fear tremble down your back. These vile and venomous, eight-legged intruders may get a little too close for comfort.
CornSTALKERS – Monster scarecrows lie in wait in this overgrown path of debris, straw bales & cornstalks. Guests must weave their way through this twisting maze of bedlam, dodging a series of dead ends and avoiding the stalkers who are “dead-set†on forbidding anyone escape.
In addition to the terror-filled, new haunted attractions, Scarowinds 2005 features frightening favorites resurrected from the crypts of the undead, including:
Alien Crypt in 3D
Devious space aliens concoct a brutally brilliant experience in pure, undiluted fear. In an unearthly vortex of dizzying motion and color, menacing alien beings spring to life with vibrant terror, luring guests deeper and deeper into their strange and sinister world. Victims encounter floating, ethereal creatures that feed on human fear during this spine-tingling, heart-pounding journey.
Friday the 13th: Jason’s Extreme Cuts
Guests are cordially invited to a special screaming… er, screening of a tribute to Paramount Pictures’ celebrated slasher saga, Friday the 13th. The indestructible hockey-masked maniac, Jason Voorhees returns to slice, dice, slash and gash his way through a whole new group of clueless victims in this big-screen, multi-sensory gore-fest. It’s a bloodbath of epic proportions as the diabolical legend of Camp Crystal Lake wreaks his revenge on Scarowinds.
Warning: This attraction/movie contains scenes and effects that can be described as gory and violent. The movie is not recommended for young children or guests who are sensitive to horror movie images.
Alcatraz Escape
Guests take a grisly-guided tour into the dismal depths of the Federal system’s most notorious prison on Alcatraz Island. This fearsome facility has housed many of the world’s most infamous homicidal maniacs, mass murderers and cold-blooded killers. The fun kicks into high gear when a breakout from the prison’s psycho ward occurs, triggering a prison lockdown. Now the inmates are in charge of the asylum! Trapped in the crazed madness, guests will find out if there really is no escape from Alcatraz!
Elvira’s Superstition
Elvira, the mistress of the dark, invites guests inside her virtual ‘Scream Park’ for the ride of their afterlife. It’s full scream ahead, as guests screech and scrape through Elvira’s thrill ride, promising frightfully interactive entertainment the likes of which no living being has ever seen.
Skaraoke
Guests sing as though their life depends on it as they choose from a list of monster hits from the past and present. The hosting ghouls will supply the scare while vicious vocalists provide the screams. Skaraoke is held on the Paramount Plaza Stage and is presented three to four times per day.
Along the way guests can dare to experience some of the scariest rides on the planet in the darkest “dead†of night as they test their bravery on a terrifying lineup of rides including BORG Assimilator™, the Carolinas’ only flying coaster, Top Gun®: The Jet Coaster, Drop Zone Stunt Tower®, Vortex™, Carolina Cyclone and Thunder Road.
