I felt a bit silly driving over to the park tonight in a massive downpour, and even as I entered the parking lot I was a bit unsure of whether it would be a waste of money to go in. There were probably 10 or so cars in the parking lot when I got there, but sure enough, Wes (bgwfreak) and Chris (CoasterChris) were there at the entrance, ready to brave the elements.

I doubt there was even 100 people in the park tonight, but the rain really was not that bad for a while. The outdoor trail, Headless Hollow, was closed due to the weather, so we hit Massacre Manor first. As usual, this was probably the most well done of the haunted attractions, and we had the added bonus of all of the attention being focused on us, since we were the only people in the building essentially. On the way out we ran into Scott and Natividad, who were working hard in the rain, and we saw them quite a few more times during the evening.

Over to County Fair, we did Alcatraz Escape, and it was identical to last year I believe. Since it was raining, everytime one of the characters slammed against the chain link fence, water sprayed all over us, which was an added little effect I suppose. While we were in that area, we did Superstition in the Action F/X Theater. I've always liked that film a lot, and I think it would be interesting to see a 3-D version of it.

Heading over to Top Gun, we were greeted by a completely empty station, and the announcement was also made at that time that the park would be closing at 8:30 due to the weather. I'm also assuming they were losing a ton of money staffing the park with virtually no guests. Top Gun was hauling, so we took two rides in the front seat, then headed for the other side of the park to get the last maze in.

It was raining pretty hard at this point, so what better to do than take a ride on Hurler? Wisely, Wes sat out, but Chris and I took a front seat ride. I was fine, huddled in my poncho, and the coaster was flying, as it usually does during Scarowinds. I can only hope that it will continue to run that well next year.

Before closing, we walked through Alien Crypt, which again made use of 3-D. I've always liked that one, and the characters painted to blend in with the walls are always effective. After that, our Scarowinds evening ended just an hour and a half after it begun. We managed to do all of the mazes with the exception of the outdoor one, and got two coaster rides in as well, so it really didn't turn out half bad. The park even gave out free tickets to come back to everyone as they left, which was a nice gesture. Regardless of the weather, I had a great time, and it was fun hanging out with Wes and Chris.

Tomorrow I will probably drop by briefly in the morning for a few final spins on the flyers.

I'm surprised they even opened it today, with it raining that bad....

hopefully the weather'll clear up tommorow before I go, although a little rain wouldn't be bad to clear crowds a bit (not the downpours we had today though..)

I wonder, did they give you a refund because they closed so early? Because it sucks that they closed after only an hour and a half....

i'm going with a few friends, think cephas will join me, but we'll get there around 4:30 to have some fun on the flyers before SCarowinds

^ These days you pretty much HAVE to open up if you post it on your website.

We had the best of both world's, we got to do everything very quickly and we got free tickets to come back later as well.

I'll be posting my pics later in this thread.

Jonathan I echo everything you said as well. It was nice just to hang out with you and Chris and chat since most of the time I see you you're with your "possey" and we really never talk much.

And I must say the weather helped the mood of the park a LOT! It was kind of weird looking off of Top Gun's lift seeing these huge rolling clouds come sweeping over the sky and such from the tropical storm.

I'm just glad it wasn't 105 degrees like at C3!

Oh and Scott and Natividad (now that I know Scott reads the boards) it was nice seeing you guys again and as I always try to say I appreciate all you do for the park!

Well, I'm glad you all had a pretty good time even with the weather. I bet you got a little sting on Hurler in the front row.

Giving out free passes was a great thing for them to do also. With the way the actors played with us last week I can only imagine what they did with only a few to keep up with.

Well, I'm in Bamberg now and we're headed out to the clubs. Talk at you later.
