x is for Christ.

Very Interesting.

Still, it's more perception than anything, and most perceive the X to be a way to mark out Christ. The web site and info you provided has greatly enlightened me though. Never thought I'd find out all of this on a Xarowinds site though. :P

I beleive the actuall name of the holiday is Christmas.

Do you not understand abbreviations? Is there a reason that you're trying to start flames out of a simple abbreviaton?

If I was trying to start a Flame you'd know it.

I know about the X from early literature and the History of it. Its just in this society we live in it seems as if everyone is trying to "work around" Chrstianity and keep things midstream as not to offend.

Plus it is spelled Xmas (one word)

Yeah I know what you're talking about. Like holiday break rather than CHRISTmas break or holiday trees. Really stupid IMO. Anyways, sorry to go off topic with that one, so I'll stop and everyone can talk about Winterfest.

To chime in here im not going to be so quick to say if it will be a "success or not because what is the determinating factors to state if its a success or a flop. However from what I saw and from what I know paramount can do I dont think too many people are going to be impressed. It just may be me but that games really kill the mood to any event and takes away the focus. I cant lie, I was expecting more but realistically more. For example, if the park was done up like the area around vortex then I would have been wowwed out of my mind. I was impressed with the lighting effects in the front of the parks but it looks like the park tried to be too fancy with the lights and it just didnt do it. I dont know but it just didnt seem like that many lights for the small amount of space it occupied. I know im no CEO, well just yet. or in charged of anything but I feel that if the lights were strung throughout the trees instead if just hanging with a ball of lights on them the event would have felt a whole lot full than it did.

Another thing is that I wasn't "taken away" and I basically felt like I was at carowinds with a few lights around me. WIth some "land markers" and different theme elements around to set the area aside from the rest would have been a nice touch. Now keep in mind these are just my opinions but I also felt more could have been done with the skating rink like decorations or something like that, but the lighting and the music was a very nice touch! What saved winterfest for me was the santa's toyshop show. I highly reccomend seeing this after strolling the park because if you see it before you do anything...well...you may not enjoy the event as much as you could have if you saw the show later in the evening. I really enjoyed the show and the "effects" that were incorporated in it also. Another thing that saved the event for me was illuminations. It took me back to my days of being in the nutcracker and I made a few tips enteraining the 200 guest that were there that night lol lol. I really enjoyed that light show and it does very well for picture ops!

I was thinking that the park could have open gold rusher and themed to to a mad dash to get the christmas gifts to the little brats and have props along the course, kinda like the cut outs on dora, and even have ricochet open also and give it a "christmas" theme and the whole carolina boardwalk but hey thats wishful thinking (Pssst "important people" are you listening) for next years event. Overall I think the event can use some work but I would go back...for the 14.99 price but not if I had to pay regular price! Wow...I just totally turn this into a trip report lol lol oh well.

Before I go I want to send my apologies to the public relations chick at the exit gates. I kinda said that scott and natividad were important people and everyone else wasn't but she is important because she works at CAROWINDS!!

uhhh what are you talking about blue prints? Just because an event is new doesnt mean it doesnt have to be an instant success. Case in point, the nick parade. Its first year was a major hit and it was never done before. Im sorry if I went into the event with realistical expectations but I just got a "not complete" feel but like I sid I will go back, on the 14.99 price.

After going to the park for the actual event this past Saturday night, I'm gonna chime in here with a few comments. I got to see everything in all its lit up glory. I was really surprised at how great the park looked. Half of this stuff I didn't see at the media preview since it was just a tour of the attractions. I absolutely adored the penguins over in the fountain near the entrance of RRR. So, the park gets high marks for looking great.

I didn't do Santa's Toy Factory again. I just don't care for stuff like that. We stuck around for a few minutes for Scrooge and the crowd really loved it. I really liked the water/light show. It really gets you in the Christmas/holiday (pick your version) mood while in line for the Flyers. I really liked a lot of the decorations that are in that area.

I guess my biggest concern is the number of attractions and stuff to do. Sure you've got Top Gun and the Flyers! You've got the musical and the parade. But, to me, there could be more stuff to do. I know this is the first year but maybe in the next few editions of WF, there will be more holiday stuff/attractions. (And more snow!) Maybe a walkthrough Holiday house? Even a couple more shows could be set up somewhere? Decorate Scooby's Mansion up inside? The people in front of us thought it was decorated up for Christmas but it wasn't.

Another hit with the group I hung out with was the food/buffet (surprise, surprise, and we only hit the buffet once, Mr. Anderson!) at the "Winter Haus." I'm glad there is the 9.99 option but I just couldn't see paying 14.99 for it.

In all honesty, I'd love to go back before it ends if my schedule allows it. The Flyers were running great that night. We did do Top Gun in the front seat and about froze. (Of course, I wear the jacket with the broken zipper.) I'd go back just to do all that again (in the cold air, yes!)

I'd say its going to be a success. Its just going to need time to find its footing.

Interesting about being enough to do or not. We got there at 5, basically there were no crowds at all. We did everything there was to do one time and we finished just in time for the parade.

We had grandparents and a 4 year old with us so that may make some difference. Sure, there is room for growth, but we found our time at the park was filled.
