General Carowinds discussion

I'm a teenager and don't usually hang around the kids areas (Animation Station, Zoom Zone, and Nick Central), but I'm concerned for the well being of the park. I think that the themeing of Animation Station (formally called Hanna Barbara Land) is too old for today's generation of children. Most characters cannot be regonized by some kids like Peter Potomus and Dastardly and his dog Muttley. Outside of the area (beside Scooby's Haunted Mansion) some Hanna Barbara characters come out. One hairy looking character always puzzles the kids (they don't know he's Captian Cavemen).
I think it's time that Animation Station be rethemed to something else. Weather it be more recognizable Hanna Barbara characters or an extension of Nick Central. Hanna Barbara Land was a hit back in the earlier park days, but it time that something be done to get that area attracting kids back. The rides could use some refurbishing also.

I think Carowinds is actively in the process of bringing in more and more Nick characters. Zoom Zone is basically character free, and the focus seems to be more and more on Scooby Doo than any other older characters. I believe change is occuring, just at a slow pace. The Nick Central addition (along with Super Saturator) have really started the change to modern kid cartoons.

Animation Station does need retheming,

but instead of making an extension for nick central theme it to cartoon network or disney.

Kids actually know because lets see......theres the boomarang network and cartoon network that stills show those old cartoons. personally i think the style of AS is fine. everything cant be high tech and if it was then the high tech-ness wont be appreciated. Its not just for the kids to appreciate, But as well as parents. because they can tell their kids their stories of when they met the same character and compare their childhood photos to their kids pictures. And back to the showing of the cartoons on t.v., case senerio; kids sees huckleberry hound cartoon on boomarang, after that comes to PC then what do you know!! they see huckleberry hound.

So just because its getting old to you, doesnt mean its old to the population. Besides i see more older people taking pictures with characters vs. the kids. Those cartoons are classics and they werent meant to be up-beat like the rugrats or jimmy neutron. The kids seem to always enjoy the cut outs and they are perfect photo opts. Kids dont care if they reconize the character as long as they are having fun and enjoying theirselves they are fine. Their not gonna walk up to a character and walk away and say your not mainstream i cant enjoy you ;)

Now and update on the rides then im all for it. Its some awsome kiddy rides out thee on the market now and with atleast 2 more newer attractions there it would be a great place to hang out with your kids. In a post long ago i stated that a semi-reprofiled look of the area (a little on the lines of toon lagoon) would really put that place on the map.

but instead of making an extension for nick central theme it to cartoon network or disney

Your kiding right?? Six flags/time warner kind of owns the rights to cartoon network so dont look for it. Disney.........well im not even goin there

I don't think they should change the theme of Animation Station. Like coasterbruh said, the Hanna Barbera characters are still very recognizable, and are alott more popular than most of the crap Nickelodeon is churning out these days.

I do think they should mainly focus around the Flinstones, Jetsons, Scooby Doo, and Huckleberry Hound though. Kids probably don't know who the rest of those HB characters are.

And while were talking about AS, I think they should repaint the Carousel more respectable colors. I know its painted brightly to appeal to kids, but it is an antique, built in 1923, and I think it deserves better than being painted floresent pink and green. Maybe a sheme more along the lines of the Riverview Carousel at SFOG.

Maybe they should consider moving the Carousel to another location.. the boardwalk area perhaps? I agree as well that the Animation Station theme is good. Jetsons staying is a good call... I think they have a live action movie in the works as well.

^I'm guessing No Man???

Back to wdwspider's post. I think that moving it to different location is a possibility. I wouldn't mind them plopping it right in the middle of Paramount Plaza, don't know if it would fit though. It could work in Carolina Showplace as well, since there is alott of unused space left behind from the Monorail and Speedway removals. Then they could put it where Whirling Dervish was, but Top Gun speeding around next to it might not create the greatest atmosphere.

But then again, just repainting it white with royal blue and gold trim would be nice.
