Instead of posting a link that you have to register for to read, I will just paste the article for those interested. Article from the Charlotte Observer, Jan 27, 2006:

Carowinds for sale, CBS says

CBS Corp., the owner of Paramount's Carowinds and four other North American parks, plans to sell off its theme park business, the company announced Thursday.

The parks will operate normally while the sale is negotiated, company officials said.

CBS said in a statement it expects to sell the unit, Paramount Parks, in the second half of this year and that "numerous parties" have expressed interest in acquiring it. The division no longer fits the company's core content-oriented strategy, CBS spokesman Dana McClintock told the Observer.

It's possible that the names of some properties and attractions could change after the sale, but it's too soon to give details, McClintock added. "These are questions to be answered in the months to come," he said.

At Carowinds, on the Carolinas' border, park officials learned of the sale late Thursday afternoon. A spokesman said the park will be open for business as usual in March, and that it was unclear what changes could occur. Carowinds has 120 full-time workers and 2,000 seasonal employees at the peak of the summer.

Paramount Parks had more than 12 million visitors last year to its properties, which also include Paramount's Kings Dominion outside Richmond.

The Charlotte-area park opened in 1973. At the time, founding businessman Pat Hall of Charlotte said the name Carowinds derived from the two states it straddled and the winds that blew across them, according to the park's Web site. After several changes in ownership that culminated in the sale to Paramount in 1992, it added Paramount's name to its own.

The park has grown from its original 73 acres to 105, and notable attractions include Top Gun: the Jet Coaster, the Borg Assimilator and Nickelodeon Central. Last year, the park set a single-season attendance record of 2.13 million visitors, a 6 percent increase over the year before, and was ranked the 29th-most-attended theme park in North America.

In September, the park announced it will expand its water park 25 percent and rename it Boomerang Bay.

That's what I get for not reading the other threads.......

I was misled by the article when it stated "At Carowinds, on the Carolinas' border, park officials learned of the sale late Thursday afternoon."

Sounds like you knew it before the park did.

OK, back to time out for me!

It is about time (no offense to Paramount....you have done some great things with the park, but...yeah.)

I would love for the people who own Herschend to buy Carowinds.

I have heard the the people who own Kat Country (the radio station) want to place a bill.

I have a few suggestions if they (KC) do buy it:

#1: If you have country music playing throughout the park, you will loose a lot of visitors IMO. Have a variety of music playing.

#2: Rename it back to Carowinds and reinstall the bricks with the counties that make up NC/SC.

#3: Start trying to retheme it back to the Carolinas (aka.... the NC/SC beaches for WP, the mountains and the piedmont.

#4: Add a hyper coaster!!!!!!! (had to throw that it!)

Lets just pray the Six Flags does not put in a bid (though they are bankrupt) they would ruin the park. But the likelyhood of that happening is slim since that own one in GA.

I have mixed feelings about this.

While I would love for Carowinds to go back to its roots, at this point the park is so dependant on Paramount theming ("Parawinds"), I think there would be a negative effect if all the movie and Nickelodeon stuff was suddenly dropped - Particularly since over the last few years Paramount has really been pushing Carowinds as a "movie park", with the various slogans and such.

I guess there could be some sort of licensing deal worked out, but still...

The next few months will be very interesting to say the least.

Not to try to steer this topic off the main road to one of the many sideroads that topics sometimes end up going, but would you be kind enough to tell me where you are getting your info about Six Flags being bankrupt? I have not saw anything on the news about them filing a Chapter 7 or a Chapter 13. Maybe I missed it but it looks to me they are doing pretty good since the stock is on the rise and many investers seem to be pleased with the new directiion the chain is going.

Ok lets see if I can veer this car back on the main road.

Ooops...my mistake.

They are not bankrupt...sorry bout that wrong info!

Maybe I should have said something that they were heading down the wrong path...I am glad to see them doing better now. For some reason I though that they were in finacial trouble.

^I would go and edit my post but I have already edited it once already. Wont let me do it again.

I do see the point about where it might hurt the park to take out all of the movie theming. I guess we will find out sometime what is going to happen.
