MAX! SHAME ON YOU!!!

Were you trying to fool us??

2005 was Thunder Road's 30th anniversary, not 2006.

Sifer it for yourself!

season 1976 through season 2005 = 30 years of service!

oooooops!

Depends if you start with 1 or 0, I start with 0.

This is the 31st season yes, but it's 30 years old.

You don't count your birthdays by seasons ;) If I was born in 1976, then I'd be 30 years old this year.

So, during C3 we can make a special announcement like,

"Happy 30th to Thunder Road offering 31 seasons of FUN"
;)

^ Remember that Scott agreed last year that it was going to be the 30th anniversary.

so it's his fault ;)

What's funny is that on the front of the 2002 Carowinds brochure, the write:
"Celebrating 30 Years Of Fun"

I guess there are 2 basic formulas that parks can use when counting anniversary's.

A "seasons" formula or a "birthday" formula. Kinda strange ain't it?

One last call for any memories of the coaster! Does anybody know anybody who was one of the first riders? One of the first ride ops? Any personal records? Anybody rode the thing 1000x?

I've already learned of a couple who was married on the coaster not long after it was opened? Any marriage proposals on the coaster?

Thanks to those who have already shared their recollections in this thread. Who knows! These might just come in handy one day! After all, a coaster is only 30 once in its life...

Has anyone ridden it more than 50 times in a row (or know anyone who has)? [see sig]

I did on the first day of school this past year (for Char-Meck) and it's the longest amount of time I've spent on a coaster without exiting the ride (a little over 4 hours). It's also the most consecutive rides I've had on any coaster. According to the ride ops it was the most consecutive rides on Thunder Road that season (2005).

I'd love to do it again but it would take lots of things to fall into place (almost empty park, cooperative ride ops, my bladder holding out, etc.) If I didn't have to pee so bad I would have probably stayed on for 80 (my pace if I stayed on til the park closed that day).

I probably did in 1977 when I was part of a group making a commercial on White Lightnin' & Thunder Road. What a fun day that was! Got an excused absence from school and non-stop rides on both coasters all day long!

Are you trying to confuse us again?

I thought it was 31 years ol. ;)

I have no idea how many times I've ridden the old girl. The only coaster I ever started counting was Borg. lol

1 time the vekoma didn't fall apart in the lake, 2 times the vekoma didn't fall apart in the lake, 3 times...

Happy 30th to Thunder Road!

TR has always been a favorite of mine. It was my first "big" coaster, and I can still remember how jittery I was in the station before boarding as a kid. Nothing will ever compare to the excitement I felt as the train crested the lift hill.

The ride keeps up great speed the whole course. You'll be gasping for breath by the time you hit the brake run!

I'd love to see the ride returned to its former red/white/blue paint scheme again. Maybe it will happen sometime in the future.

Thunder Road should be part of Carowinds until the very end. It's the heart and soul of the park! B)
