Time to beat a dead horse....again.....

We have all noticed that past commercials and brochures for Carowinds don't always show the actual parks rides but the commercial I saw today hit an all time low. During the commercial, they actually show a Vekoma SLC. What a blow to Carowinds!! I believe Canada's Wonderland has the only SLC in the Paramount chain so that is probably the clip they used.

And if you think that was amiss, the wooden coaster footage used in the same commercial was Son of Beast. Those funky headrest gave that away.

Two of the most painful coasters on earth being advertised for Carowinds!

This begs the question. Do parks really save that much time & money by not filming actual park attractions from the park being advertised? I would gladly submit a Top Gun photo and video if they can't afford to go take one themselves. Is there a clear cut reason that parks do this?

I know it's not just Paramount doing this, and while they think the majority of guests do not notice these things, I beg to differ. Very young kids are much more perceptive these days. If they see a suspended looping coasters with 2 across seating being advertised at Carowinds, well, then that is what they expect in reality.

On a positive note, the same commercial did show actual BORG footage.

What you have to consider is that they use those backdrops and b-roll for all the parks. It's pretty expensive to do production for each indivdual park. If it's not, then it's just a smart business thing. I mean think about it, it saves them a lot of money. Why wouldn't they do it?

If you went to the other markets like PKI for instance, you'd probably see the same commercial with the PKI information overlayed on top of the same background footage.

It's not that big a deal to me, since they've been doing it for years.

Six Flags does it all the time.

The only thing that DOES drive me crazy is billboards and the website. The website especially, how come you can't put a pic of PC's Top Gun on there? A website picture doesn't cost a thing.

Meh, it doesn't bother me personally. Before I was a coaster enthusiast, I would have seen the SLC and immediately thought "Hey! Its Top Gun".

And yes, production on different commercials for each park gets pricy, when they get the same effect from one generic commerical with specific park info added in.

I whole heartly agree w/ what swampfox is saying because I can remember how SFoG use to advertise a commercial w/ batman the ride on it. Now while I was young (like 12-14) I was still into coasters and I knew what batman the ride was and I was like WOW SFoG has one. So here I am walking around the park actually looking for BMTR w/ a cousin of mines and was finally told by someone working at the park that coaster wasnt there. I was kinda upset...but hey they eventually installed it I was just a few years too early!

And besides it cant be that expensive to get some footage, heck I did it at little to no cost!

I'm sure you'd volunteer your time to get some footage for a commercial. If only the park would do that . . . ;)

Yeah that gets to me too...super cheap and a right and a left click or two, and each parks websites can have thier own "best" coaster featured on the website.
