Any opinions on this? Several recent articles about the new Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach have mentioned Carowinds as being the closest "competitor".

I like that word! :D

In one survey I read, many people that travel from afar to Carowinds, also have Myrtle Beach on their itinerary.

Usually when there is competition between theme parks, you get great attractions. The HPR will only be approx. 160 miles from Carowinds. This, IMO, could mean great things for Carowinds in the near future.

Time will tell....

I think that having another major theme park could drive admission prices down here. So yes, I think it will be a plus.

I have a ton I could say but that's for another post.

I do hope that park will be competition for us.

Competition is good and healthy but if Hard Rock just lays down asphalt and build rides on that will Carowinds consider that competition? After all, aren't we headed for the miniature scale Disney effect?

I think it's a great thing for enthusiasts.

When I travel to a park I don't want to just go to one park, if there's another within 2-3 hours away I will try and hit it.

The region in general is under utilized in terms of parks.

I could easily see a park in the Raleigh/Greensboro areas working very well.

With all those college students up there, seems like a no brainer.

Also Columbia wouldn't be a bad place for a small park either.

NC and SC are growing like crazy, hopefully we'll continue to see new parks pop up.

I just remembered they are building that wild west park out in Eastern NC.
