It is official. Paramount's Carowinds is now under the same management as Cedar Point, Knott's Berry Farm, Dorney Park, Valleyfair, Worlds of Fun, Geagua Lake, and Michigan's Adventure.

Slideshow from the investors conference call: http://www.cedarfair.com/_upload/cedar%20f...ation%20web.pdf

Some interesting information from the investors conference call:

-They intend to keep all 5 Paramount Parks operational
-After this, it is unlikely that they will purchase any of the Six Flags parks that are for sale
-The Nickelodeon license extends for 3 more years and they have the option to extend it to the existing Cedar Fair parks
-Management issues for the individual parks have yet to be addressed (or at least made public...)
-Paramount contracts are being reviewed in regards to the movie and television licensing. No word yet on whether they will have to retheme or not.
-The Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas is included in the deal
-There are 939 acres of undeveloped land between the Paramount Parks that can be used for expansion (80 acres at Canada's Wonderland and several hundred at Kings Island; no specifics given on the other 3 parks)
-hotels may be considered (similar to how Cedar Point has Breakers, Breakers Express, etc)

And from the media conference call:
-Paramount and Nickelodeon are separate contracts. The Nickelodeon contract has been extended as mentioned above, but there is no decision yet on Paramount. From what I gather, it looks like they will be dropping that, and it was inferred that all parks will drop the Paramount name.
-They will likely work out a season pass good at all 12 parks.
-No changes to any of the parks for this year as the season has already started
-They will re-evaluate pricing at the new parks.
-"Most experts feel The Beast is the best wooden coaster in the United States"
-The lease for the Paramount Parks corporate headquarters in Charlotte expires at the end of this summer.
-The deal includes the lease with Bonfante Gardens.
-The new Cedar Point coaster (errr.. mystery attraction) will be announced in late August.
-They have no plans for national promotions and agreements (IE: the Six Flags Home Depot agreement).
-500 acres for development at Kings Dominion and "a few acres at Carowinds"
-no significant pre-existing ride deals for the 5 Paramount Parks (IE: when Cedar Fair bought Knott's Berry Farm, they had already signed a $20 million deal for Ghostrider).
-4 more years on the Nickelodeon contract (they said 3 during the 11 AM conference)
-the Paramount license runs for an additional 10 years, but there is a buyout clause that they may option after this season

It was down to cedar fair and myself to purchase the parks but I decided to let them get them because I had other things to do! I dont know what to say. I havent really been to a cedar fair park but all I know is that I DONT like parks w/ just rides and no pinch of theming anywhere! And I HATE parks w/ all the rides red!

Do the current Cedar Fair Season Passes allow free entry to all the parks in the chain?

Yes, they do, although I believe Geagua Lake is not included in that. They may do the same thing here, and keep Paramount Parks separated. Or, they could go the Six Flags route, and bring all the parks together into the same system.

I really do hope they keep every thing seperate. Like the people who own carabbas and bone fish grill...same company different business!

All I can say is Snoopy is in... Spongebob is out!

I am actually pretty happy with this.

We could have had another AstroWorld on our hands and lost the park forever to some greedy person just buying the park to resell it for land.

I really hope that they do the Six flags route and allow us to use our passes at all the parks. We'll have to see I guess.

Overall I'm very happy with this and can't wait to see what CF does with the parks.

I am happy i can see it now Bayard at Cedar Fair Employee. Back to the subject when Jarvis had his talk with the GM he mentioned that he believes the park will keep the Paramount Name. My believing now is that sine Cedar Fair acquired Six Flags Worlds of Adventure they changed it back to the original name Geauga Lake. Maybe now it will just be Carowinds

^ I agree. I can't see a reason why they would keep the Paramount name on the parks. Most people just call the parks by their original names anyway.

Maybe the "Fairly Odd Coaster" will go back to its original name also.

I have one thing for you guys to think about. Who's to say that Cedar Fair, after everything is final with this deal and they own the Paramount chain, won't sell off some of the parks to the highest bidder?

They could keep the parks they wanted and try to sell the rest. Just something to keep in the back of your mind.

They said in the conference call that they intend to operate all five of the parks.

Did they say anything about what they would call the parks?

Would they keep the Paramount name or drop it?

Sweet! B) :D

I'd like for the park to go back to just "Carowinds" again, though there is so much Paramount themeing now it would be quite a task to get rid of it all.

Hopefully they won't have to rename big rides like Top Gun.

-"Most experts feel The Beast is the best wooden coaster in the United States"

Yes, let's review:

The Beast is the "best" at:

- shaking and jackhammering along the track
- showing how to reduce a ride to nothing with the over-application of breaks along its course
- Providing a lackluster ride experience
- winding through the woods with no apparent speed for excitement
- failing to provide ANY airtime along its course
- Touting how great it is without anything to support the claims
- Being a great ride.... a looong time ago
- having a sibling ride which is even worse
- Poorly maintained as evidenced by its unneccessarily rough ride

Now that is the most rediculous thing I have read in long time!

I'm no "expert", but I ranked The Beast 61 out of 62 on my wooden coaster poll for last year. It hasn't been the best wooden coaster in a long time, and with Cedar Fair's history with wooden coasters, I wouldn't expect it to get any better!
