Here's a chart that I devised showing all Cedar Fair parks (except Cedar Point) and year they were acquired.

I also added the coasters that were built at each park AFTER they were acquired by Cedar Fair. I guess we can try and decipher any type of pattern in coaster building from this chart. Doesn't look good for Michigan's Adventure. I realize other attractions have been added besides coasters though.

Valleyfair - 1978 acquisition by CF
coasters added since acquisition
Rails (Schwarzkopf Wildcat) -1979
Corkscrew (Arrow steel) - 1980
Excalibur (Arrow steel) - 1989
Wild Thing (Morgan hyper steel) - 1996
Mad Mouse (Arrow) - 1999
Steel Venom (Intamin shuttle launch) - 2003

Dorney - 1992 acquisition by CF
coasters added since acquisition
Steel Force (Morgan steel) - 1997
Wild Mouse (Mack) - 2000
Woodstock Express (kiddie steel) - 2000
Talon (B&M inverted) - 2001
Hydra the Revenge (B&M floorless) -2005

Worlds of Fun - 1995 acquisition by CF
coasters added since acquisition
Mamba (Morgan hyper steel) - 1998
Boomerang (Vekoma reverse looper) - 2000
Spinning Dragons (Gerstlauer spinning steel) - 2004
Patriot (B&M inverted) - 2006

Knott's Berry Farm - 1997 acquisition by CF
coasters added since acquisition
Ghost Rider - (CCI wood) - 1998
Xcelerator - (Intamin launch) - 2002
Silver Bullet - (B&M inverted) - 2004

Michigans Adventure - 2001 acquisition by CF
coasters added since acquisition
none

Geauga Lake - 2004 acquisition by CF
coasters added since acquisition
none

Beast may get better....when it's replaced with a B&M ride ala Hercules / Hyrda. Ok, that won't happen, but given Mean Streak's history don't look for Beast to get any better as a ride.

Not to be a doom-and-gloomer, as this has many positive upsides - but ride EVERYTHING you want to in the park this year. Take pictures of EVERYTHING you want to have a memory of from the park as it is now. Buy your Top Gun and BORG merchandise now if you want it. Anything is subject to change after this season, although I doubt we'd lose Top Gun the coaster, we might lose the name.

And...they better not do one thing to the flyers - leave them alone!

I do think this has a chance to work, and work well. CF may want to put in more "thrill" rides into the Paramount parks, yet may learn a thing or two from the Paramount crew on wooden coaster maintenance. This isn't Geauga Lake, which was one park in a state of neglect - this is merger with a chain that's well run and profitable already, and CF is more likely to do a "BORG" and assimilate the best parts of the two companies.

One thing of note - both chains have 2 parks that draw over 3 million people (PKI / PCW & CP / KBF) so are similar at the top. The remaining parks in the Paramount chain all outdraw the rest of the CF chain by a good margin - Dorney is the only one close at 1.5 million. CF tends to put the money where they're making money, so the (former) Paramount parks may end up with some nice additions before too long. I wonder how it will play out for the smaller parks, though. Maybe with the sale happening now some rides can get into the planning stages, perhaps even for next season.

I'd really like to see them drop some cash now on purchasing the Crossroads Mall land, so Carowinds doesn't have future problems with being landlocked. The Charlotte metro area isn't getting anything but bigger, so Carowinds may be a real prime location for them.

This should be interesting.....

From what i heard the parks will keep the Paramount name for 10 years although that may be an option, i'm not sure.

So i wonder if i can now get into CP for free this year.

I've already place my order for Steel Force to be moved here. (Hey, I like that coaster....probably the only one.)

As I said in the original post, the contract is for 10 years but there is a buyout option that can be triggered at anytime, and they are going to look at that at the end of this season.

And the deal isn't exactly "finalized" yet and won't be until later on this year. So it'll be next year, more than likely, that you'll be able to use season passes at other CF parks. Just hold your horses and see what becomes of everything.

If they do not option to keep the Paramount license, how does that affect the Star Trek Experience. That whole concept is solely Paramount. I see them selling off the Las Vegas bit anyway.
