They don't actually own the Las Vegas attraction, nor did CBS/Paramount. They have the management contract, but I believe the Hilton actually owns all of the equipment. I would bet they have a separate license than the parks.

I didn't think that Star Trek Experience was actually included in the sale...was it?

I would imagine there is an exclusive Trek license for Trek The Experience seperate from the Paramount License. Granted, Trek is a Paramount Property, but Trek its self is still almost seperate. IIRC, Gene Roddenberry's wife may still own some rights (although I could be wrong). As long as Hilton actually owns the attraction, I think it would be safe to say that if CF wanted out of that Mgt. contract, as with Bonfonte, the actual owners (in this case Hilton Las Vegas) could/would take it over. That is one attraction that simply wouldn't work without the license as EVERYTHING is licensed, so they'd have to shut it down if there were licensing issues (although I highly doubt Paramount would want to stop the licensing, I mean, they sell a lot of their own licensed merch. thur there and as a Trek themed attraction, it is really popular). Garsh, I miss Las Vegas!

This is real good for the Paramounts parks now that Cedar Fair owns them they can get more done meaning the Cedar Fair Parks can grow. Now they own 12 theme parks and their not stopping. They want to aquire another Six Flags Park I heard.

Another perspective from the Charlotte Observer:

Actually they specifically said that they will not be looking at buying any of the Six Flags parks, as they will be tied up for the next few years dealing with the 5 parks they just acquired.

Actually, what they said was they weren't Looking at acquiring any more parks for the immediate future...unless something incredible falls in their laps (I.E. Geauga Lake). Don't think that if certain Parks were to become available, they wouldn't pounce. Thats the one thing I've heard Kinzel say he regretted was not getting some parks when they had the chance. Just because they aren't looking doesn't mean they won't, but I wouldn't expect some of the smaller SFI parks that get sold, esp. the unflagged ones, to be picked up by Cedar Fair. Thankfully, that other little upstart looking to acquire smaller theme parks seems to be still looking, I just can't remember their name.

Cedar Point will remain the flagship," said Beth Robertson, vice president of communications for the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. "It will remain the destination."

Robertson said Paramount's Carowinds, near Charlotte, N.C., is a destination as well because of the weather and the park being half in South Carolina and North Carolina.

"It's a fun hook," she said.

Even so, Kinzel said, "Cedar Point is on a peninsula. It is just a beautiful piece of property."

I like the sound of that!

I love the sound of that too.. Makes it sound like Carowinds will be their main focus of the 5 parks. Happy days are coming.

YAY, I am sure we will see many good investments into Carowinds including one possibly final investment from Paramount Parks that may leave some of us upset. Keep an eye on an ride nearby an area that needs a makeover. :( She tears herself part but we keep supporting her.

Sounds like Carowinds might become the "Cedar Point of the South!"

It said that CP is a destination and so is Carowinds, and since it says that CP is a multiple day/night destination, then maybe Carowinds might add a resort or something, like it was planned in the beginning.

So far I like what I see.

CF can bring major improvements to carowinds.

You never know, we might get what we have been hoping for!

I think CF would have to improve the rest of the park, add 2-3 large flats and some new signature coaster & a resort. Yes Carowinds is a destination kinda but it could be more of one if the right improvements are made.

You just don't hear people overseas or in most states say were going to Carowinds.

I really think Carowinds will be their main focus since it is such a unique park. Well have to see in the coming years what all the changes will be. I'm very excited!

"Cedar Point of the South" I like that quote alot :)
