General Carowinds discussion

I am from South Carolina Charleston to be exact. What did paramount do with the old steamship ride that I think was called Ms.Carowinds since most of all the older good rides are gone. I think that carowinds under paramount management went to hell. The last time I went there I was very disapointed with the quality and the prices going through the roof. Does anyone know what ceader fair is going to do with the park undernew management. I would love to see CF bring back the old monorail.

Sorry For My Rant,

Carolina Queen was taken out 2004 to make way for Borg Assimilator. (Was Originally Planned to be a resturaunt next to Borg but was too torn up to salvage)

Nobody really knows whats going to happen with Cedar Fair and new management only time will tell we wont see much of anything till next season

Actually it was called the Carolina. It was torn down after the park dropped it when they picked it up, or atleast this is what I was told. I was also told that Carowinds wanted to keep it but Paramount Parks Inc. wouldn't pay to fix it. I think Carowinds lost alot of it's charm when they decided to let the riverboat go. I would like to see Cedar Fair restore the riverboat ride, Plantation Sqaure, Thunder Road, and Old World Marketplace.

Welcome.

Ok let's put this to rest. The river boat was going to be saved but while moveing it a large hold was punched in the side. Someone ran into the side of the boat with one of those ferry's they had that took people to Smurf Island or some kind of other boat. It would have cost alot more to repair the boat then it would to build a new one so it was trashed.

Personally i think it should have been repaired but thats way over and done with now.

THey used the wood from the boat up at Sonny's BBQ to give it a real Carolina flavor. Just ask for the Carolina Queen special. They even put replica smoke stacks on the buns. Roller ordered one while eating there one day. Boy had a stroke.

Your rant is well taken my many people on this board (including myself) and then you'll see there are others on this board that do not particularly have an appreciation of the parks lost historical past and just like to rant about the people that DO. Ignore them!

I for one have never been anti-Paramount. In fact, I love a lot of what they have done with the park since 1993. Their only 2 mistakes in my opinion were the removal of the monorail & the Carolina (especially for a pos Vekoma). Two relaxing family attractions that were somewhat unique in this area.

I am optimistic about the future of Carowinds under Cedar Fair. They definately view Carowinds with a certain potential that doesn't exist in the other Paramount parks.

1) It will be the CF park with the longest operating schedule west of Knott's Berry Farm.
2) They like the uniqueness of having a "state-line" park and will hype this in their marketing strategy.
3) The park is located in one of the fastest growing areas in the US.
4) The park has plenty of expansion room, unlike PGA & PCW.
5) And best of all, they do like hyper-coasters unlike Paramount.

Side note: CF has only added one Vekoma coaster (adult) to one park since their acquisition. This was a Boomerang at WoF. This shows that they do not casually buy bargain basement Vekoma crappers like Paramount did. Unfortunately, CF will be acquiring the 7 Vekoma nightmares that Paramount Parks has.....

And yes I hate VEKOMA coasters as if you can't tell. They have a bad history of reliability among other things. People I knew in the industry always considered them the "poor man's coaster". Or, if you need something at the last minute, coaster. LOL!

Has CF send sent any type of memo to the carowinds employees since they are now owned by CF and no longer by paramount? CF is probably going to go through hell with the upgrades at the paramount parks they aquired. What about the POS system that CF runs and the one CW won't CF have to do severe upgrades to carowinds to get all of the employees to the CF payroll system or are they going go run it from the paramount parks home office for now? I am just guessing.

Sorry for my back to back posting. I rememer as a kid a long time ago that CW had smurf island what did paramount do with all of the boats and equipment that was used there and when did smurf island close completely? Also do you think CF is going to keep the old rotating tower the one for observation since it was there since the park opened or has paramount torn that down to?

I ment upgrades with the IT equipment like the cash registers used as each food service stand and used at the main ticketing counter. So that CF would have to bring the system online with their home office server for things like price changes updates memos ect.

Why don't we let the sale get finalized first before we start worrying about things like changes at the park?

If they were ACEr's, would they worried about what kind of food we're going to get? Would we get a Johnny Rockets? An on site Ruby Tuesdays? Fried Cheese? Cotton candy for 25 cents? <g>
