I have never rode this ride, yet have been to Carowinds hundreds of times. I have been a season pass holder for years and have my favorite seats on all the rides but have yet to experiance that awesome airtime that I experiance at other parks.

I then came across this site (which by the way is GREAT... I thought I was the only one who goes to Carowinds whenever possible ;) ). Everyone here is saying Phantom Flyers is the greatest ever because of the snapping ability. Any suggestions on how to enhance this experiance? I'm looking forward to trying it out on Monday and Tuesday. Anyone planning on going to the park on Monday or Tuesday (July 24, 25) and want to meet up. I allready set up a thread in the "Meetup Board". let me know...

We had a thread about this a long time ago, but of course it's gone now. he he

Bascially what I do is point the fin out until you get up to speed.

Then start slowly moving the fin back and forth so that you kind of get the tub in a rocking motion.

Then when it starts to get up higher turn it all the way in so that you head down. After this you should feel the tub "bottom out" and create slack in the cables.

Turn your fin out and then you'll get slung outwards.

Repeat.

It took me about 5 rides to figure it out in the beginning.

Avoid tub #1 Its a dud.

As soon as the ride starts moving, start building up a slow back-and-forth swing. This takes some practice, as you have to feel when to turn the sail back and forth. Eventually, you'll start snapping at the bottom of your swing, when it gets large enough.

And if you really get it going, you'll start snapping at the *top* of your swing :o

or like me, i bounced throughout several full swings, i stopped moving everything and just continued bouncing for about 3 full snaps without moving.

^Take note of the bad technique. The snapper should never wimp out. ;) :P

:P lol...true, that was truely bad technique and not like me at all. I think it was a combo of 2 things, 1) the fact that i'd never bounced throughout a full swing (bottom, top, and in between, bouncing the whole time), much less 3 B) , 2) dirty looks from one or two of the ride Ops told me i might need to let it calm down a bit to avoid trouble  lol :P

But yes, that is bad technique, NEVER give up!! *insert evil laugh here* ;)

I just wish they would extend the cycle time by about 30 second. By the time you get going you can only get about 5 snaps in at most and then it cuts off.

I have yet to snap the ones at Holiday World or the new Larsons like they got at Camden Park.

Yea, speaking of which, has the cycle been shortened this year? It seems shorter (but i also only went twice last year)

I had two free tickets to use yesterday and took a couple that I'm friends with.

Well the first time we rode the flyers they rode together and the husband couldn't get snapping (his first time).

Well the second time around she rides by herself and snaps great! LOL! I was like Go Carol! She said it scared her to death the first time it did it. lol

I guess women are smarter after all. <_<

And the husband still couldn't figure it out the 2nd time. But hey, it took me about 5 trys before I figured it out.

We were booing some of them yesterday (the gp) so many people...so little snapping.
